Director, Major Gifts & Leadership Giving

To achieve clearly defined annual and multi-year revenue goals by cultivating relationships with high net worth current and prospective donors, and with donors giving outside of workplace campaigns. The primary objective of the position is to engage with United Way of Summit County’s investors to improve donor retention, acquisition and growth. This position cultivates and solicits current Tocqueville- and Leadership-level contributors and community-wide prospects through workplace campaigns, community-based efforts, volunteer relationships, effective communications and other fundraising events and engagement opportunities.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Manage and Grow Tocqueville Relationships: Plan and implement cultivation, solicitation, recognition and retention strategies for the United Way of Summit County Tocqueville Society. Assist in recruiting and maintaining relationships with the Tocqueville Society campaign chair and committee members; provide the chair/committee with overall strategic direction, meeting management, administrative support and communications in order to recruit and retain Tocqueville Society members. Develop, support and maintain year-round relationships with Tocqueville members, major donors and prospects. Engage current and potential investors through one-on-one relationship building visits. Link investors to passions and needs to our impact work and engagement opportunities. Grow investors in the work of UWSC to support the growth of resource under management for the organization. Work closely with Corporate & Community Engagement Team to identify and steward current and potential Tocqueville members. (30%)
  • Manage and Grow United Way Direct Relationships: Plan and implement cultivation, solicitation, recognition and retention strategies for United Way Direct investors, giving outside of the workplace campaign. Assist in recruiting and maintaining relationships with the United Way Direct chair and committee members; provide the chair/committee with overall strategic direction, meeting management, administrative support and communications in order to steward and grow United Way Direct givers. Develop, support and maintain year-round relationships with United Way Direct Leadership givers and prospects. Engage current and potential investors through one-on-one relationship building visits. Link investors to passions and needs to our impact work and engagement opportunities. Grow investors in the work of UWSC to support the growth of resource under management for the organization. (20%)
  • Reporting and Recognition: Oversee Tocqueville and Leadership donor database system to support gift fulfillment. Develop and utilize systems for the identification, research and solicitation of prospective Tocqueville and Leadership donors. Develop and implement appropriate and cost-effective means of donor recognition and appreciation. (20%)
  • Support: Assist the VP, Corporate & Community Engagement in annual planning and defining and achieving the fundraising goals of the organization. Implement and grow strategic planned giving program. (10%)
  • Engagement: Support UWSC’s Engagement Events by recruiting volunteers from assigned portfolio. Assist in set-up and execution of Engagement Events, as needed. (10%)
  • Solicit planned gifts and endowment giving. (10%)
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, business management, organization management or other related field required.
Skills/Experience: 
  • At least five years of building relationships with high net-worth donors/clients experience required.
  • At least five years of fundraising or planned giving role experience required.
  • Competent in MS Office products.
  • Interest in the improvement of the Summit County community.

PHYSICAL/OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Position is primarily a normal office setting, requiring long periods of sedentary work at a desk and computer.
  • Ability to routinely travel throughout multi-floor office, walking, climbing stairs.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, reach with hands and arms, bend and stoop.
  • Minimal lifting up to 25 pounds occasionally.
  • Must be willing to work non-standard work schedule including nights, weekends, and other unusual hours on occasion.
  • After-hours event attendance occasionally.
  • Valid driver license and proof of insurance.
  • Access to reliable insured automobile to be used for work-related travel in Summit County area.
