Monadnock United Way is seeking a professional for an outstanding opportunity to lead the Resource Development team. The DRD reports directly to the President, serves as a key member of the Leadership Team, and supports MUWs mission of improving lives by mobilizing diverse partners and investing in programs and people to create long-lasting measurable change.
The primary focus and responsibility is to diversify and expand our revenue streams in support of our strategic plan for sustainability and growth. This includes growth from a variety of sources outside of the annual workplace campaign including major gifts, grants, foundations, planned giving and corporate partnerships.
This person will work strategically and collaboratively with the Leadership Team and all MUW staff to increase the visibility of our work and to create new ways of engaging existing and new donors as well as organizational partners.
Organizational Leadership
- Participates as a member of the Leadership Team to provide a united, visible, and strong leadership presence across the organization to help instill new thinking, focus and prioritize efforts, operationalize the organization’s strategic plan, and integrate RD, Impact and Marketing
- Provides support and professional leadership to the MUW Leadership Team and all staff in:
- The integration of fundraising, impact, investment, evaluation and communications
- The development of effective volunteer recruitment, training, support, retention and recognition practices
- Developing a system for grant making that matches community impact opportunities to the wishes of donors
- Manages and monitors budgets, data analysis, grant compliance and other financial oversight
Resource Development
- Develops 5-year fundraising goals and annual workplans to grow and diversify revenue streams to further MUW’s strategic plan and agenda for impactful investing in the community
- Develops strategies and implements a plan to ensure a year-round, exceptional relationship with stakeholders representing all revenue streams
- Researches and recommends new fundraising techniques in response to changes in the campaign and general fundraising environment
- Manages and analyzes all fundraising results to identify and influence trends
- Provides analysis of potential markets and assists in designing and implementing strategies to maximize resources
- Assists with the identification and recruitment of the annual campaign chair and supports the Campaign and Donor Relations Manager to ensure a successful annual fundraising campaign.
- Supports the resource development committee, which includes identification and recruitment of committee chair and members, strategic agenda and achievement of goals
- Spends a minimum of 50% of time outside of the office to engage with donors, alongside MUWs strong volunteer network of solicitors, board members and the President
- Improves our donor database by working with the vendor to fully utilize all components of the system including donor tracking, CRM, donor profiles, reporting and tools to efficiently and effectively manage campaigns and fundraising. Also includes working with Impact and Investment and Marketing to effectively connect databases where possible
- Researches and integrates best practices using United Way Worldwide’s systems approach for matching resource development with impactful investments to meet community needs
- Effectively explains MUW’s vision, fundraising and community impact work in a style that’s easy to understand
Staff Leadership
- Provides goal-setting, visioning, leadership, and strategic direction for RD staff and volunteers
- Supports and cultivates the professional growth and development of RD staff
- Directs and manages RD staff activities. Ensures that team members are invested in team activities and decisions and that the team works together to achieve organizational goals
- Guides, motivates, and participates in the training, professional development, and evaluation of direct and shared reports
- Responsible for accurate and timely completion and/or approval of organizational documents, including but not limited to performance reviews, professional development plans, goals and objectives, timesheets, expense and travel reimbursements, and ongoing documentation of performance accomplishments and areas requiring improvements
- Supervise consultants and volunteers
Acquire and Utilize Knowledge
- Updates skills regularly to enhance knowledge of community needs and resources
- Maintains knowledge of current and evolving community fundraising and investment trends, as well as economic, political, technical, and general trends that may impact community need and resources to respond
- Acquires knowledge of United Way Worldwide system and uses to further local work
- Maintains a support system of leaders across the region, state and the UWW system
Communications
- Works with the MUW team and volunteers to ensure positive and active communication of the resource development agenda, community impact and investment agenda, events, accomplishments and challenges including written reports
- Engages in community-wide and state-level presentations focused on MUW’s mission, vision and community impact and investment agenda
- Engages in advocacy and policy work at all levels to create impact and investment opportunities and to demonstrate MUW as an effective change agent
- Experience in the United Way System with a deep understanding of the value of fundraising for impactful investing is preferred
- Demonstrated ability to increase revenue through implemented strategies and relationship building skills
- Developed technical and analytical skills related to fund development
- Communications, outreach and advocacy are key components of this position. This individual must exhibit strong interpersonal, oral, presentation, and written communication skills with an ability to relate to a diverse group of individuals or organizations in an effective manner
