The Community Health Director is responsible for ensuring operational effectiveness and excellence across UWSEM Health and Equity programming and initiatives including strategic alignment, integration, funding, staffing, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation.  This position supports the development and implementation of regional and community health impact strategies and products for mobilizing communities, particularly vulnerable populations.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Oversee community health programming, planning, resourcing, staffing, consultant and people management, budget and progress reporting, troubleshooting and problem-solving.
  • Advise the Vice President, Health & Equity and other key members of Community Impact on community health projects, collaborations, and partnership opportunities.
  • Assist and support the implementation of United Way's Health Agenda and strategies that improve the health of individuals, families, and communities.
  • Ensure the delivery of overall UWSEM Health Strategy in accordance with the agreed to commitments and targets. Make certain programmatic / financial reports are provided.
  • Advance the deployment of the UWSEM Health Agenda through creating research- and evidence-based innovative strategies to address community health.
  • Develop and implement long-term goals and objectives to achieve successful outcomes for regional and community health impact strategies and products. Provide direction and support to program managers and staff.
  • Establish an evaluation framework to assess the strengths of community health programming and to identify areas for improvement and change.
  • Ensure community health programming in the existing UWSEM portfolio is equitably resourced and promoted.
  • Develop processes and accountability relating to community health programming, including documentation, records maintenance, program tracking and funding compliance.
  • Maintain continuous lines of communication, keeping the Vice President, Health & Equity informed of all critical issues.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local community partners and agencies, as well as key regional and national individuals and organizations.
  • Assist with health-focused grant management, ensuring consistency in application and submission of health-related grants.
  • May assist with the health-related investment process and selection of partnerships and grants, including the budget.
Educational Background: 
A bachelor's degree in human or social sciences, nonprofit management, public administration or a related field. A master's degree is strongly preferred
Skills/Experience: 

Demonstrated Abilities:

  • Possess a solid understanding of and passion for United Way programs and initiatives
  • Solid organizational, project management and leadership skills
  • Ability to set priorities, take initiative, manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Collaborate with a diverse group of people while exhibiting cultural sensitivity

Acquired Knowledge:

  • A minimum of 7-10 years of experience in nonprofit program management, human services, education, finance or a related field (including 3-5 years in a leadership role)
  • Experience with Medicaid reimbursement is strongly preferred
