This position creates and implements efforts to raise funds, increase visibility and engage individuals and groups in the opportunities to support United Way of the Valley and Greater Utica Area through events, affinity groups, and volunteer opportunities.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Plan, coordinate and manage events, including Day of Action, Saranac Thursdays and Concert Series volunteer groups, Cliff’s Pumps United, Community United event, 100 Women Who Care, Emerging Leaders United volunteer events, tabling and trade shows, campaign events, initiative event and other organization events as needed. Key event duties include but are not limited to:
- Securing sponsorships, in-kind donations and items for events to grow net revenue. Establishing each event budget including revenue and expense tracking and monitoring.
- Plan and manage logistics including selection of and coordination with all vendors and partners, guest lists, event programs.
- Necessary event set-up and breakdown.
- Identifying and resolving problems throughout planning and day of events.
- Create and implement volunteer and event marketing promotional plan in coordination with Marketing & Communications staff.
- Update and track volunteers and event activity in database. Complete reports on time as required. Example, bi-monthly Board of Directors reports, Reports to external funders.
- Coordinate with proper departments and provide assistance with other events to support United Way.
- Primary coordinator of Community Engagement volunteer committee and Emerging Leaders United Volunteer Taskforce committee. Work closely with Board of Director’s Chair of Community Engagement.
- Stay knowledgeable of sector research (both inside and outside of United Way). Researches and shares best practices, trends, and development trends regularly.
- Perform other duties in support of United Way operations and functions, as assigned, including assistance with other revenue development efforts.
- Support corporate engagement of local companies with United Way.
- Recruit and manage volunteers from the community.
Educational Background:
Associates Degree required.
Skills/Experience:
- At least three year of experience in hospitality, event planning or related field.
- Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated excellent communication skills verbally and written.
- Ability to engage and motivate others.
- Ability to confidently make decisions and impromptu problem solve on the fly.
Additional Requirements:
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to lift 40 pounds.
- Ability to work evening and weekend hours including occasional Sunday
