- This position represents United Way of Porter County in a unique balance of advocacy, education and strategic planning.
- Working with our community partners, this position will play a key role in addressing the impact of the opioid epidemic. This will lead to best practices and solutions in creating a regional continuum of care.
- The Community Impact Specialist will oversee United Way’s collective impact initiative for Northwest Indiana with a main focus on opioid and substance abuse. They will be responsible to manage and support the initiative through: implementation; meeting facilitation; ongoing communication among partners; and handling logistic and administrative details to ensure smooth functioning of the initiative.
- In addition this Specialist will facilitate regional collective impact to address special needs that threaten the resiliency and stability of our families. They will collaborate strategies in addressing the opioid crisis from all angles.
Areas of Responsibility:
United Against Opioid:
- Assembling a cross-sector team comprised of community partners and residents, and developing a framework that will expand opportunities to stabilize and create resilient families across the region. Working with public and private partners to assure our community addresses the need to make this current crisis a priority.
- Working to demonstrate the value of a backbone organization to draw the regional assets together, and United Way of Porter County’s unique opportunity to be that organization. Melding together all partners of this work is the critical challenge and focus. Implementing a regional network by building strong relationships and funding to do so.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
- Facilitate the coordination and convening of initiative activities including NIISSA meetings, Working Group meetings, and community engagement activities and ensure the initiative progresses as outlined in the framework created.
- Train and supervise United Against Opioid AmeriCorps member as part of the coverage and bandwidth of this work.
- Create a continuum of care and a NoWrongDoor policy.
- Recognize the depth of the challenges and the peripheral affects it has on the circles surrounding the person in need, is critical.
- Work in partnership with all organizations responsible for identifying policy and systems barriers to develop solutions for action.
- Coordinate the development of work plans and benchmarks.
- Facilitate a tracking and reporting progress of results to partners.
- Serve as a facilitator, guiding teams, partners, and stakeholders (including residents), towards consensus and a shared vision.
- Engage residents and elected officials on the issues facing us and the goals, objectives, priorities, successes and opportunities of the project.
- Create a positive view of the work in the community.
- Work with other committee representatives to ensure all partners, working groups, sub-grantees, committees, etc. work well and effectively together.
- Work with United Way team to ensure branding and cohesive message is maintained.
- Develop relationships with stakeholders including residents and attend community meetings and outreach events.
Grant Writing and Reporting
- Seek grant funding opportunities including making recommendations and drafting scope of work and contracts for sub-grantees.
- Work on grant writing for all areas of impact as directed.
- Oversee process of grant research and applications.
- Complete reporting for project funders.
Marketing and Community Outreach
- Work with marketing team to develop necessary collateral to share data findings.
- Provide content to social media and web strategy.
- Present findings to management as needed.
Educational Background:
Bachelor’s Degree

- Strong organizational, collaborative and project management skills.
- Public speaking is a must.
