Children of Promise, NYC

Overview
Headquarters:
Brooklyn, NY
Founded:
2009
About Us
Mission:

To embrace children of incarcerated parents & empower them to break the cycle of intergenerational involvement in the criminal justice system.

Programs:

In 2009, Sharon Content founded Children of Promise, NYC (CPNYC) after growing increasingly concerned about the lack of support offered to young people who experience parental incarceration.

CPNYC is the first and only after-school program and summer day camp specifically designed to meet the needs, interests and concerns of children left behind by a parent serving time in prison. Since its inception, we have provided services to over 1,500 children and their families. The agency has developed broad collaborative relationships and community partnerships, raised over $5M dollars in government and philanthropic funding and established it's own innovative and holistic model to support children of incarcerated parents in leading healthy and productive lives.

Founded:
1984
About Us
Mission:

Family ReEntry’s mission is to break cycles of violence, crime and incarceration by providing client-centered interventions and support services to empower and strengthen individuals, families and communities.

Programs:

Family ReEntry SM began in 1984, as a reentry support group for men at the Isaiah House in Bridgeport and has since grown to include intervention, reentry, and family and children programs. Over the past thirty-two years, effective community-based programs developed by Family ReEntry, have significantly reduced the likelihood that clients will re-offend, be re-arrested, or be re-incarcerated. Our programs comprise three integrated sectors: Prevention, Intervention, and Reentry, providing a spectrum of services designed to help break the cycle of incarceration. FRE addresses the specific needs of each client and their families through individualized case management and support services. It works to create a positive social network for each client, towards helping to make their transition from prison back into the community a successful one and helping them towards a road of self-sufficiency, while strengthening their families and the community. FRE’s programs include: Domestic Violence Treatment and Education, Community Reentry, Mentoring Programs and Intensive Outpatient Programs.

nXu Education

Overview
Headquarters:
New York, NY
About Us
Areas of Focus:
Mission:

nXu is a non-profit organization whose mission is to catalyze and equip youth and adults to explore, articulate, and pursue their purpose.

Programs:
  • Our Methodology: We have developed a research & evidence-based, 4-phase, purpose development methodology called “The Compass” that serves as our learning standards.
  • Our Products & Services: We offer a training program as well as our purpose development curriculum to schools, and we also directly implement programming with students both in school and out of school.
  • Our Target: Through our products and services, we have served high school students from over 50 district, charter, and private schools across the country.  We are seeking to partner with additional schools and organizations that are interested in fostering a sense of purpose among their students.
Why Work For Us?:

A sense of purpose acts as an inner compass that—when combined with skills training and community support—allows young people to live in alignment with their highest potential.  Thus, we have developed a research & evidence-based purpose development methodology and curriculum that we have implemented in-school and out-of-school with high school students in Chicago, Newark, New York, San Antonio and Seattle.  Through this direct programming, we have cultivated a deep understanding of the implementation needs of our purpose development program.  Leveraging these insights, we are establishing a teacher training program and school-based curriculum that will allow a growing number of high schools to cultivate a sense of purpose in the lives of their students.
