International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center

Overview
Headquarters:
Mexico City, Mexico
Size:
1001-5000 employees
Founded:
1966
About Us
Mission:

Maize and Wheat Science for Improved Livelihoods.

Programs:

CIMMYT works throughout the developing world to improve livelihoods and foster more productive, sustainable maize and wheat farming. Our portfolio squarely targets critical challenges, including food insecurity and malnutrition, climate change and environmental degradation.

Through collaborative research, partnerships, and training, the center helps to build and strengthen a new generation of national agricultural research and extension services in maize- and wheat-growing nations. As a member of the CGIAR System composed of 15 agricultural research centers, CIMMYT leads the CGIAR Research Programs on Maize and Wheat, which align and add value to the efforts of more than 500 partners.

Awards & Accolades:
By conservative estimates, this work provides at least $2 billion in annual benefits to farmers.
CIMMYT alumni include a Nobel Peace Prize laureate and three World Food Prize winners.
CIMMYT’s success depends on the longstanding partnerships and trust of public agricultural research systems, private companies, advanced research institutes and academia, and non-governmental and farmer organizations.
More than 70 percent of the wheat grown in developing countries and more than 50 percent of improved maize varieties derive from CIMMYT breeding materials.
More than 10,000 scientists have trained at CIMMYT and gone on to become leaders in their own countries. The center empowers thousands of students, extension workers and farmers through courses, workshops and field days.

Asociación Ondine

Overview
Headquarters:
Palma de Mallorca, Balearic Islands, Spain
Size:
1-10 employees
Founded:
2012
About Us
Areas of Focus:
Mission:

To enable the Balearic sea to recover its rich biodiversity and to thrive in harmony with a prospering, environmentally conscious and proactive local population.

Programs:

Asociación Ondine is a marine conservation non for profit organisation founded in 2012 by Brad Robertson, Gabriel Morey and Bea Esparza with the aim of addressing marine conservational issues in the Balearic Islands. It's a very unique organisation, established by locals for locals. Our team is a fun mix of nationalities, professions and personalities that all share a common goal: a clean and healthy Balearic Sea.

  • AO is lead by president Brad Robertson -  Program Development, Operations & Outreach.
  • Vice President Biel Morey - MPA Team Member & Operations.
  • Miguel Pozo - Head of Science & Expeditions.
  • Mari Gutic - Volunteer Coordinator, Program Development & Outreach.

Together with a passionate team of professional, local volunteers Asociación Ondine seeks to promote the environmental and financial benefits that healthy marine eco-systems provide for local communities.

AO concentrates its efforts in Marine Conservation on two distinct problem areas: the creation and effective management of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs), and the reduction and prevention of plastic pollution. In addition to that scientific research is conducted in order to better understand local problems and develop solutions accordingly.

With a firm belief that the only way to approach the root cause of any human created problem and reach long lasting results, is to involve those same humans into the solution of it, Asociación Ondine brings together science, community and conservation by collaborating with individuals, schools, businesses, NGOs and governmental institutions to develop and implement science-based marine conservation, community initiatives & educational programmes.

We inspire, empower and support the local population to actively move towards environmentally friendly practices, ultimately internalising a care-taking approach which is not only crucial to the seas but beneficial to us all.

Dos Manos

Asociación Ondine’s Dos Manos initiatives have been developed to tackle the issues of plastic pollution. Through our Dos Manos Beach Clean ups, School Programme and Partners Programme, Asociación Ondine works together with individual households, schools, companies and event organisers to stop the issue at its source by significantly reducing locally produced plastic pollution. Together we are creating a community-driven movement for positive change, ultimately aiming to achieve a single-use-plastic-free Balearics.

Marine Protected Areas

Asociación Ondine works in close collaboration with a devoted team of experienced marine scientists, various scientific institutions and the local government to identify the best locations to establish new MPAs in view of the intended Balearic MPAs Network.

Asociación Ondine´s experienced MPA-team conducts surveys and studies possible new MPA sites, supplies survey data from dive expeditions, creates proposals & outlines required for the selection, declaration and management of new MPAs and collaborates with governmental institutions regarding patrol assistance of existing MPAs.

Why Work For Us?:

We are a group of ocean-lovers and marine conservationist from various backgrounds who are all very passionate about what we do, and we want you to feel the same when working with us. Your work will have a tangible impact on Balearic Islands Marine conservation and as a crucial part of our team you will help us shape the future of Asociación Ondine as well as your own role within the organisation.
