Nashville Children’s Theatre (NCT), the oldest professional children’s theatre in the U.S., seeks a visionary and collaborative leader as its next Artistic Director. This role offers a unique opportunity to shape the artistic future of NCT, known for its high-quality productions and transformative educational programming.
The Artistic Director will oversee season planning, direct productions, and lead the creative team while collaborating closely with the Managing Director and Board of Trustees. Job Duties for Artistic Director at Nashville Children’s Theatre:
1. Oversee Season Planning
- Select and develop the theatre’s season lineup, ensuring diversity and creativity in programming.
2. Direct Productions
- Lead the direction of productions, ensuring high artistic standards and alignment with NCT's mission.
3. Lead the Creative Team
- Manage, inspire, and collaborate with directors, designers, and performers to produce impactful work.
4. Collaborate with Leadership
- Work closely with the Managing Director and Board of Trustees to align artistic and operational strategies.
5. Promote Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
- Ensure that the theatre’s programming, casting, and environment reflect diverse voices and serve the community.
6. Financial and Resource Management
- Oversee production budgets and assist with fundraising to support artistic and operational goals
The qualifications for the Artistic Director position at Nashville Children’s Theatre include:

Experience in Theatre Leadership
- Proven experience in an artistic leadership role, ideally within a professional theatre environment focused on youth or family audiences.
