Executive Director
The Quilts of Valor® Foundation is seeking an Executive Director to begin salaried employment October 1, 2025 or shortly thereafter. QOVF is a national, 501(c)(3) corporation established in 2003 held in high esteem within the quilting, military and veteran communities. Our membership of over 11,000 volunteers makes and awards quilts through more than 700 quilting groups operating in all 50 states to fulfill the Foundation’s Mission: to cover Service Members and Veterans touched by war with comforting and healing Quilts of Valor. Develop and implement strategies aiming to promote the organization’s mission and “voice”
budgets and business plans for the attainment of goals and objectives set by the Board of Directors
Ensure that the Foundation follows appropriate accounting and financial procedures, and confirm the fiscal, legal and contractual responsibilities of the Foundation are being fulfilled
Build an effective team of leaders by providing guidance and coaching to State and Regional Group Leaders, and subordinate managers
Review reports by State and Regional Leaders, and subordinate managers to monitor the organization’s financial and non-financial position
Ensure adherence of the organization’s daily activities and long-term plans to established policies and legal guidelines
Direct and oversee fundraising efforts, including by grant writing
Identify and negotiate relationships and commercial partnerships with corporate – including quilting and sewing - partners, and other supporters and donors
Develop and maintain partnerships with other community and not for profit organizations, veterans' organizations and quilt guilds
Forge and maintain relations of trust with local member groups, and State and Regional Leaders of the Foundation
Act as the public speaker and public relations representative of the company in ways that strengthen its profile, including by serving as editor-in-chief of the Foundation's newsletter and creating an active social media presence across multiple platforms
Monitor branding, use of the Foundation's logo, content of communications and handle trademark infringements
Devise remedial actions for any identified issues and conduct crisis management when necessary
Transparent and high integrity leadership
Five or more years nonprofit management experience, as well as a history of involvement in relevant community/professional organizations
Solid, hands-on, budget management experience, including budget preparation, analysis, decision-making and reporting
Ability to apply successful fundraising and networking techniques
Outstanding organization and leadership abilities
Excellent communication (oral and written) and public speaking skills
Proven ability to work cooperatively, diplomatically, and effectively with Boards, volunteers, and in community relations and outreach capacities
Competence and demonstrated ability to supervise, as well as to work successfully with, Foundation staff, volunteers, and diverse public constituencies
Working knowledge of legal requirements and corporate governance principles applicable to the nonprofit sector, including in fields of fundraising, finance, human resources, tax, and intellectual property
Proficiency in the use of computers (PC and Mac), Google, Microsoft and social media applications.
Flexibility to meet leadership and management responsibilities outside of standard business hours (including weekends and evenings). Willingness to travel occasionally during non-business hours
