Director of Philanthropy

The Director of Philanthropy reports to the Superintendent, functions as a member of the Cabinet, and directly leads the development and execution of SCS’s continued philanthropic growth through expanded donor cultivation and stewardship, alumni engagement, annual giving, fundraising opportunities, and donation platform management.

The Director of Philanthropy oversees donor and alumni relationships, coordinating and maximizing fundraising events, event volunteer management, and SCS community engagement. The Director of Philanthropy centers on living out the mission with a grounded, strength of character, maintaining a positive culture of collaboration and productivity, and promoting a vibrant, Christ-centered, and unified workplace.

Areas of Responsibility:

Champion of People: Invests relationally in faculty and staff. Serves as an ambassador for the school through developing, engaging, and deepening relationships with donors and alumni. Ensures donor recognition and facilitates meaningful stewardship. Builds relationships with parent volunteers to coordinate external and internal efforts and initiatives, including engaging with the Parent Teacher Fellowship (PTF) steering team.

Best Practices: Develops and leads the comprehensive strategy to grow philanthropic contributed revenue, in close partnership with the Superintendent and Director of Finance.  Manages donor portfolio of individuals to acquire, cultivate, solicit and steward gifts. Places emphasis on personal contact with donors through engagement points such as visits, tours, events, phone calls, emails, and personal correspondence. Maintain and manage the Philanthropy budget.

Key Resources: Works closely with Superintendent, Director of Finance, and Board to determine needs and provide fundraising strategic advice regarding planning and positioning activities to optimize fundraising potential. Develops and drives strategies to achieve priority fundraising goals with a focus on securing gifts from alumni and private donors. Responsible for compilation and production of Scepter publication in cooperation with Marketing department.

Community: Serves as lead contact for coordinating and executing large fundraising events such as the Auction and Golf Tournament. Builds meaningful relationships with internal and external stakeholders to maximize alignment with strategic goals and philanthropic support for those goals. Develops strategies and implements activities to maximize relationships with donations from alumni and donors. Responsible for planning and overseeing other community building events such as Christmas in the Courtyard and the Fall Festival.

Teamwork: Assists with Central Office support, as needed. Engages in effective and supportive conversations with various departments of the school as needed. Provides hospitality for school events as needed to ensure welcoming and positive experiences.

Skills/Experience: 

Role Qualifications:
 

  • Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, business administration, or a related field (preferred)
  • Minimum of three years of experiences in nonprofit fundraising, with a proven track record of success in major gifts, corporate and foundation giving, and special events
  • Experience leading fundraising strategy development and implementation of fundraising operating plans
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to produce and manage multiple deliverables with overlapping deadlines
  • Leadership approach from a place of confidence, discretion, and collaboration
  • Sense of grace and peace throughout all facets of daily work and personal interactions
  • Excellence and effectiveness in communication, both verbal and written
  • Competence in fundraising software and donor databases
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: Base compensation range dependent on prior experience and education $85,000- $100,000
