Role Summary & Core Purpose

The Executive Director serves as the organization’s chief executive, providing strategic, financial, and operational leadership to advance a mission-driven animal welfare organization. This role is accountable for organizational growth, program quality, financial sustainability, fundraising, and community engagement, while fostering a culture of compassion, accountability, and excellence in animal care aligned with the organization’s mission, vision, and values.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Top Responsibilities

· Lead organizational strategy and partner with the Board to achieve mission and growth goals.

· Oversee financial management, budgeting, and fundraising to ensure long-term sustainability.

· Supervise and develop staff and engage a large volunteer base.

· Ensure effective shelter operations, high-quality animal care, and program outcomes.

· Represent the organization publicly and build strong community partnerships.

· Maintain compliance, oversee facilities, and drive continuous operational improvement.

· Support Board governance and provide regular organizational updates.

Work Environment

· On-site at shelter facility with flexible daytime hours Monday–Friday and occasional evenings/weekends

· Coverage for emergency animal welfare situations

· Monthly board meetings and committee meetings when applicable

Requires:

· Reliable transportation, phone access, and ability to lift 15 lbs.

Educational Background: 
Associate degree at a minimum (business, nonprofit, etc.)
Skills/Experience: 

Required:

o 3–5 years fundraising leadership with 2–4 years program management and 1+ year staff supervision

Preferred:

o Executive-level experience

o Animal welfare background

o Volunteer management experience.

o Board collaboration experience.

Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $75,000-$80,000, based on experience
