Major Gifts Officer

The Major Gifts Officer serves to generate revenue through major donor fundraising, shape and grow our Major Gifts Program, and engage donors at all levels to deepen their connection to our work and expand their philanthropic support. You’ll work closely with our CEO and colleagues across the organization to align donor passions with life-changing programs.  The position will be responsible for identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of individual or family foundation donors and prospects capable of major gifts.

Areas of Responsibility: 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of 150+ donors, including new and existing donors with high capacity.
  • Identify, cultivate, and solicit for major gifts based on giving history, research, and networking.
  • Actively engage with donor prospects to assess their philanthropic interests, identify potential for major gifts, and qualify their capacity and readiness to contribute.
  • Create, implement, and faithfully execute donor touch strategies including recognition plans/events so donors are informed, thanked and retained.
  • Utilize knowledge of fundraising principles to build and develop the major gifts program.
  • In conjunction with the donor relations specialist, maintain accurate, concise, and timely records including gifts, pledges, bio data and donor actions.
  • Work with development, communications and program staff to develop compelling materials to maximize fundraising results.
  • Collaborate with Director of Development and CEO on relationship building activities to build and promote a major gifts pipeline.
  • Actively participate in department, all staff, and board meetings as needed.
  • Prepare regular progress reports to CEO.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of development experience
Skills/Experience: 

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to articulate Habitat’s mission and the critical need for safe, decent and affordable housing to donors, prospects, volunteers and other stakeholders.
  • Capable of managing projects, processes, deadlines, and a budget.
  • Proven track record of success in an environment of similar complexity, including one-on-one meetings with major donors and prospects.
  • Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and five+ years of development experience with proven success in individual major gift fundraising.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of local philanthropic community preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience working with donors and volunteers.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Ability to multi-task – must be highly detailed-oriented, organized, and motivated.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team.
  • Expert interpersonal skills, energetic and self-motivated.
  • Fully conversant with all Microsoft office products and Raiser’s Edge
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary is $55k-$75k based on experienceBenefits include 3% retirement match, health insurance stipend and wellness program, generous PTO and holidays, flexible work schedule, mission leave and paid service hours, ability to place children in Villages Charter School system, discount at ReStore, and ability to access sabbatical benefit for tenured employees.
