FHI 360 seeks a Livelihoods Specialist for the USAID Agriculture and Food-Systems Development Activity that aims to increase economic interdependence and interest across ethnic divides in Burma through the development of agriculture and food systems. The Livelihoods Specialist will assist community members from different ethnic groups to prepare for and access opportunities to participate in value chain specific livelihoods and community economic development activities in the ZOIs to ensure a locally driven and owned process. The Livelihoods Specialist will work in close cooperation with technical staff, the Chief of Party, implementing partners, stakeholders, USAID and other donors operating in the country.
- Lead project programming related to increasing livelihood opportunities and priorities as defined by organic community engagement initiatives;
- Participate in whole system in the room (WSR) community workshops to develop collaborative action plans and lead collaborative sessions to identify livelihood related activities;
- Design livelihood activities based on priorities identified during WSR workshops the are conflict-sensitive, inclusive and tailored to literate, semi-literate and illiterate populations via a variety of appropriate communication channels;
- Develop economic activities that harness and mobilize local, human, social, financial and natural capital towards the achievement of peace and stability;
- Identify and collaborate with various stakeholders to support inclusive business initiatives between urban and rural communities affected by conflict;
- Contribute to and provide inputs of annual work plan, required project reports, baseline data, tools and indicators for monitoring and evaluation, collection / sharing of lessons learned;
- Provide technical assistance and conflict-sensitive capacity building to project staff, implementing partners, stakeholders and others; and
- Document lessons learned related, evaluate impact and modify community development approaches as needed.
- Minimum 8 years’ experience designing and implementing community-level livelihood activities;
- Familiarity with the local Burmese laws and regulations that encourage or inhibit the capacity of local community groups to engage in livelihood activities across various agricultural value chains;
- Proven ability to work across various ethnic groups and stakeholders and follow cooperative action plans;
- Previous experience working in conflict-affected or sensitive communities to develop initiatives designed to promote cooperation and collaboration;
- Demonstrated capacity to develop and disseminate information through a variety of communication channels tailored to literate, semi-literate and illiterate populations; and
- Written and oral proficiency in English and Burmese required. Other ethnic languages are also highly desirable.
