Director of Annual Giving and Major Gifts

Under the direction of Senior Vice President/Chief Marketing and Development Officer and in cooperation with other YMCA Staff, the Director of Annual Giving & Major Gifts will conceive, plan and implement the annual giving campaign, stewardship, major gift and endowment strategies for 6-8 branches of the YMCA of Northwest North Carolina.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Develop, coordinate, implement and provide operational oversight of the annual giving campaign for 6-8 of the Y’s branches
  • Provide ongoing support for annual branch campaigns, but is not limited to: monitoring progress, addressing challenges, evaluating successes, training volunteers, and cultivation of donors
  • Ensure that all annual and major gift prospects are appropriately identified, cultivated, solicited, acknowledged and stewarded
  • Develops case for major philanthropic support to assure a clear, consistent message is articulated to donors and volunteers
  • Builds relationships, seeks new donors through prospecting using a variety of sources and maintains ongoing relationships with existing donors
  • Grow and manage a portfolio of high profile donors on either the association or branch level
  • Develop and present funding proposals for foundations, individual major gift supporters and other major funding sources
  • Oversight of association wide fundraising events, as needed
  • Assist in capital, major gift and endowment events, as needed
  • Provide leadership to the branch Engagement Directors-Development team
  • Coordination of Raiser’s Edge NXT and/or other data donor-based software
  • Meet or exceed annual campaign and major gift goals as determined and communicated by the CMDO
  • Attends branch leadership meetings to ensure philanthropic goals and strategies are being implemented
  • Responsible to make a minimum of 4 major gift calls each month
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience
Skills/Experience: 
  • Five years of demonstrated experience in sales, marketing, and/or fund raising experience to include major gifts, with preference given to fund-raising experience
  • Demonstrated project coordination/management experience
  • Experience with Raisers Edge NXT Software is preferred
  • Must have excellent organizational, analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
  • Must have a high level of attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to manage time and stress
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Deep understanding of, commitment to, and ability to communicate the YMCA mission
  • Competency in Microsoft Office Suite required
  • Excellent written and verbal communications
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $48,000.00 - $68,000.00
