Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Serve as the staff lead for our Schools vs Cancer Campaign in Central and Eastern North Carolina to ultimately engage the 1341 public schools in our area, with additional potential to reach private schools throughout the Area.
  • Work in partnership with Community Development Managers to increase involvement and income targets of the 314 schools currently committed to Schools vs Cancer that have a current income target of $609,504.00.
  • Be accountable for the achievement of income performance targets for a portfolio of school-based teams – through stand-alone fundraising and/or involvement in community-based events (such as Relay For Life or Making Strides Against Breast Cancer).
  • Responsible for ensuring all Schools vs Cancer teams have the necessary information and resources on topics such as physical activity, good nutrition, sun safety, and tobacco prevention.  
  • Responsible for increasing involvement of major school systems that are not currently involved with the American Cancer Society, such as Wake County, Cumberland County, Guilford County, and Pitt County.
  • Implement best practices for event revenue growth; drives and encourages creativity and innovation for the School vs Cancer teams by serving as an admin for the Central and Eastern North Carolina Schools vs Cancer Facebook Page.
  • Serve as lead staff person for Schools vs Cancer Workgroup, made up of Community Development Managers throughout Central and Eastern North Carolina.
  • Develop a plan for a large-scale, state-wide Schools vs Cancer event, with 2021 or 2022 as the inaugural year. Will be responsible for monitoring financial expenditures and progress against budgetary plan and takes appropriate measures to meet top line and bottom line goals ensuring a high ROI in meeting revenue targets. Will need to engage, recruit, train, and manage relationships with community volunteers to ensure successful events execution.
  • Responsible for effectively and efficiently completing activities and meeting target deadlines in order to achieve success
  • Actively collaborates with Community Development Distinguished Partners, Cancer Control, and ACS CAN staff to maximize success; leverages opportunities to engage constituents from corporate, distinguished partners and health systems activities in events through event sponsorship and participation.
  • Partner with enterprise support and region support services functions and ensures appropriate support is provided for successful execution of job activities.
  • Utilize available tools and processes to maximize event results, including online fundraising.
  • Utilize defined processes to ensure timely and accurate event data entry.• Ensure compliance with ACS policies, including employment, risk management, event and cash handling, and financial controls.
  • Maintain productive and collaborative relationships with the Society’s global headquarters departments and other regions; participates on regional and enterprise projects and committees as appropriate.  
  • Model and foster behavior that establishes a culture that values the staff/volunteer partnership, and is consistent with the values, goals, and objectives of the Society to create an atmosphere of trust, cooperation, accountability, empowerment, and dedication to the mission.
  • Candidate can reside in any community in Central and Eastern North Carolina
  • Travel: Candidate must be willing to make frequent (1-2 days per week) trips to markets throughout Central and Eastern North Carolina.   Rental car provided per ACS Travel Policy.  Overnight travel will be limited
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in related field and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skills/Experience: 
  • One-year related experience preferred, working within a multi-million dollar organization a plus.

  • Proficient in computer-based information systems.
  • Must have access to car or be able to transport materials to and from meetings and special events/programs. Must be able to staff evening and weekend meetings, events and programs. Must be able to lift 30 lbs and perform set up / take down of event equipment.
