FHI 360'S National Institute for Work and Learning (NIWL) seeks a Youth Coordinator (Technical Officer II) to work collaboratively with the Project Director(s) and other NIWL staff on college and career readiness initiatives; support the development of apprenticeship curricula/programs; develop strategies to improve youth leadership and youth voice across all programs; and implement activities that increase youth learning and skills.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Promotes research-based strategies and best practices aimed at improving youth engagement, youth leadership, and "youth voice" across all NIWL programs.
  • Conducts research of published literature on evolving youth development, mentoring, college and career readiness, apprenticeship curriculum and programs, career inventories, and career / interest assessments.
  • Provides technical leadership across all youth-facing activities, including program design, implementation/delivery, and assessment.
  • Engages directly with youth served by NIWL programs and promotes age-appropriate learning and leadership opportunities that support successful college and career transitions.
  • Creates and maintains youth/young adult leadership councils and program alumni groups. This may include the use of various technology platforms, social media, linked in, google hangouts, and virtual support.
  • Spearheads youth programming at global conferences, including the student application and selection process, student agenda, student project/activities, and post-conference engagement and leadership.
  • Provides technical support with the development and dissemination of publications, training materials/modules, tools, student activities, web pages, social media, quarterly reports, and presentations.
  • Schedules quarterly calls, cross-site events, and youth learning opportunities.
  • Responds to requests and inquiries from internal and external staff.
  • Support knowledge management of project documents, through platforms such as SharePoint, in accordance with FHI 360 policy.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree in education, social work, counseling, sociology, psychology, or related field. Master's degree is preferred.*
Skills/Experience: 
  • Working knowledge of youth development, youth leadership, youth engagement, career/college transitions, and apprenticeship concepts, practices and procedures.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with others and build productive working relationships with internal and external staff.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data and prepare reports.
  • 5+ years experience implementing apprenticeship / internship programs or working at a secondary school or institution of higher education with an emphasis on college/career readiness or youth development.
  • Articulate, professional, and able to communicate in a clear, positive fashion with clients and staff.
  • Experience working with relevant youth serving agencies, universities, school systems, non-profit organizations and employers.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak fluent English.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), Word Press, and social media platforms (i.e. Linked-In, Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter).
