The S2S program has a robust monitoring, evaluation, accountability and learning (MEAL) system that produces high-quality results and learning. Through those results and learning, the program continues to serve as a thought leader in the youth employment field. As the Monitoring, Evaluation and Research Intern, you would assist the MEAL team through data analysis and research tasks that will give you the experience of working on MEAL for a global international development organization.
The Skills to Succeed of Save the Children is recruiting a M&E and Research Intern. The specific job description for the intern will be mutually agreed between the hiring manager and the intern. Specific possible tasks are listed below.
Supporting Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) activities at S2S:
- Clean and analyze data using STATA
- Support the write up of baseline reports or research reports as needed
- Create summary statistics or graphs for presentations as needed
- Support learning processes through quarterly review meetings with country office staff, including coordinating calls, note taking, and maintaining up to date files on Sharepoint.
Research design and implementation
- Conduct literature reviews and write briefs on various topics related to youth employment research
- Assist in the development of tools and protocols for the annual performance evaluations
- Assist with planning on research relating to youth employment and gender
- Support the design of and implement a research study
Learning, Knowledge Management, and Communications
- Assist in the Global Learning for Action process by helping design data collection tools and analyze data
- Assist design of session at annual Learning Meeting on M&E and/or Research related topic
- Write and update materials (briefs, one pagers, reports) so that we are communicating research results with impact
Fundraising
- As time allows, and based on intern's interest, support proposal development, working with the Portfolio Growth and Performance team (government donors such as USAID) and the Resource Development team (corporate donors and foundations), including desk research, writing background sections on Research and/or M&E for proposal(s), creating graphics, copyediting.
Overall, we will make the greatest effort to expose the intern to various projects and departments at Save the Children and the staff in Country Offices in the course of fulfillment of his/her responsibilities.
- Possess strong written skills, solid interpersonal skills and ability to work within a team.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.

- An individual who is not enrolled as a student or able to receive credit from their institution may apply to an internship, however will be classified as a skilled volunteer, not as an intern.
