The Department of Portfolio Growth & Performance (PGP) Intern assists the team in creating and amplifying our USG proposal development and award management tools, resources and learning materials. This position provides both operational and technical support to both the New Business Development (NBD) and Award Management (AM) teams within NBD, and plays an important role in assisting with the development of departmental initiatives.
The intern or skilled volunteer will be provided with introductions to SCUS USG proposal development as well as trainings and mentorship into the more nuanced aspects of the process. The individual will gain skills and experience in the USAID proposal development process and will be exposed broadly to the work of an international development non-profit organization.
As an intern or skilled volunteer, you will have the opportunity to network with other Save the Children interns, volunteers and employees and participate in learning sessions about various topics spanning the breadth of Save the Children's work. Through this experience, you will gain a greater understanding about how the international development community intersects with the private sector. You will also gain transferable skills that are applicable to a variety of roles, particularly in the non-profit industry, marketing, sales, and client services.
Technical/Operational Support
- Provide technical support to the NBD and AM teams by:
- Provide proposal management support as needed (researching, attending and capturing notes in relevant meetings, etc.)
- Experiment with the Power BI platform and deliver any relevant findings.
Knowledge Management
- Support business development knowledge management and learning initiatives such as management of learning assets, video/media content conversion and editing, copy editing, and evaluation and reporting
- Assist in the collection and compilation of past USG proposal Capability Statements into one central Sharepoint library.
- Research specific entries in the Award Management System (AMS) and link them to the Strategic Opportunity & Contracts Approval (SOCA) tracker. Review data in the SOCA tracker to ensure accuracy.
Learning and Professional Development
- Bi-weekly touch-base with supervisor to discuss internship goals, project timelines, progress and roadblocks.
- Determine other informational interviews, projects, etc. that would be conducive to continuing intern development
- Create objectives for internship and measure progress against them.
- Attend various learning opportunities offered through the SCUS IFV program, as well as directly with the PGP team.
- Experience in data management and visualization.
- Experience researching relevant topics and compiling and reporting findings.
- Experience working in SharePoint.
- Excellent computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, databases).
- Experience in communications and information technology systems.
- Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and ensure timely completion of assignments.
- Ability to adapt to changing environment and workload.
- Must be eligible to work in the U.S.
- To be classified as an intern: an individual must be enrolled in a relevant undergraduate, graduate or post-graduate academic program and able to receive some level of credit from his/her college or institution. (Minimum requirement is a letter of support and documentation is required only after an internship is offered.)
- Any individual who is not a student or able to receive credit may apply for an internship, but will be classified as a skilled volunteer, not as an intern.
