Save the Children, a global humanitarian and development organization, is seeking a Summer Legal Fellow to work in the Office of the General Counsel in Washington, DC. This fellowship provides an excellent opportunity for law students to get exposure to the nonprofit sector, to legal issues related to international development and humanitarian assistance, and to the work of an in-house legal department, while contributing to Save the Children's programs in the United States and around the world.
The Summer Legal Fellow will assist with short- and long-term administrative and legal research projects for the Office of the General Counsel. Specific projects will be assigned at the time of the Fellowship, but areas of practice may include:
- Federal regulations for tax exempt organizations
- Requirements for federal government grant recipients and contractors
- Contract review and drafting
- Corporate governance
- Intellectual property, lobbying and labor/employment law
- Ability to work independently and manage projects from start to finish
- Prior exposure to corporate law, contracts law, tax law and international law
- International experience and familiarity with international development and humanitarian operations preferred
- Possess strong written skills, solid interpersonal skills and ability to work within a team
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Eligible to work in the U.S.
- To be classified as a fellow: an individual must be enrolled in a relevant graduate or post-graduate academic program and able to receive some form of credit from his/her college or institution. (Minimum requirement is a letter of support and documentation is required only after a fellowship is offered.)
