Save the Children, a global humanitarian and development organization, is seeking a Summer Legal Fellow to work in the Office of the General Counsel in Washington, DC. This fellowship provides an excellent opportunity for law students to get exposure to the nonprofit sector, to legal issues related to international development and humanitarian assistance, and to the work of an in-house legal department, while contributing to Save the Children's programs in the United States and around the world.
As a fellow, you will be given the opportunity to network with other Save the Children interns, volunteers and employees and participate in learning sessions about various topics spanning the breadth of Save the Children's work. Through this experience, you will gain a greater understanding about the international development community and how it intersects with the private sector. You will also gain transferable skills that are applicable to a variety of roles, particularly in the non-profit industry, marketing, sales, and client services.
The Summer Legal Fellow will assist with short- and long-term administrative and legal research projects for the Office of the General Counsel. Specific projects will be assigned at the time of the Fellowship, but areas of practice may include:
- federal regulations for tax exempt organizations
- requirements for federal government grant recipients and contractors
- contract review and drafting
- corporate governance
- intellectual property, lobbying and labor/employment law.
- Ability to work independently and manage projects from start to finish.
- Prior exposure to corporate law, contracts law, tax law and international law.
- International experience and familiarity with international development and humanitarian operations preferred.
- Possess strong written skills, solid interpersonal skills and ability to work within a team.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Eligible to work in the U.S.
- To be classified as an intern: an individual must be enrolled in a relevant undergraduate, graduate or post-graduate academic program and able to receive some credit from his/her college or institution. This does NOT need to be academic credit (Minimum requirement is a letter of support and documentation is required only after an internship is offered.)
