Save the Children Action Network (SCAN), Save the Children’s political advocacy arm, is looking for spring interns to support our Early Childhood Education (ECE) and Maternal, Newborn and Child Survival (MNCS) campaigns, as well as the annual Save the Children & Save the Children Action Network Advocacy Summit. SCAN was founded in 2014 to elevate the most pressing issues facing children’s ability to survive and thrive. We work at the federal level, as well as in our target states of CO, IA, IL, NH, NM, RI, SC, TN and WA, to support policies and programs that benefit kids.
Our interns gain experience in public policy, event planning, campaign communications, fundraising, grassroots mobilization and more! Specific responsibilities may include:
Government Relations:
- Supporting federal, state and local government relations efforts by researching elected officials and legislation that support MNCS and ECE
- Supporting MNCS and ECE coalition work through specific research, targeting and coordination projects
- Attending and assisting Capitol Hill events as needed
Communications:
- Assisting in maintaining media lists for targeted districts
- Monitoring social media for trends and conversations on our signature issues
- Researching media for articles relating to our signature issues
- Writing and editing for the organization’s blog, The Voice for Kids
- Assisting in website management using WordPress
- Assisting in shooting and editing videos and photos, as needed
Resource Development:
- Conducting donor and prospect research
- Drafting donor communications, including fact sheets and acknowledgements
Mobilization:
- Supporting state mobilization efforts through event planning, campus outreach and grassroots research
- Providing data support for online engagement plans
- Assisting with general administrative tasks and projects
- Assisting with the coordination of our Student Ambassador and Volunteer Leader Programs
Event Support:
- Assisting with the planning and implementation of events hosted by SCAN, including the 2019 Advocacy Summit (updating RSVP lists, preparing event materials and assisting with day-of logistics)
- Background in domestic and/or international policy
- Interest in early childhood education in the U.S. and/or global maternal and child health
- Ability to excel in a fast-paced, start-up environment
- Experience with political campaigns and/or grassroots organizing a plus
- Possess strong written skills, solid interpersonal skills and ability to work within a team.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Eligible to work in the U.S.
- (Minimum requirement is a letter of support and documentation is required only after an internship is offered.
- An individual who is not enrolled as a student may apply for an internship, but will be classified as a skilled volunteer, not as an intern.
