Spring Humanitarian Response MEAL and Data Analysis Intern or Fellow

Candidate will support Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL), data management and analysis efforts, including data visualization, for the Department of Humanitarian Response (DHR).  Utilizing strong data analysis skills the intern or fellow will work under the guidance of DHR MEAL staff to strengthen our practices, and support current projects. The intern will collaborate with other Business Teams to ensure that DHR is using best available practices in regard to MEAL, data management, and data visualization.  The individual will also help to streamline and document DHR portfolio analysis processes, and make recommendations in regard to future enhancements.  The individual  may also be asked to support other IT needs of the Humanitarian Business Team in support of improved response capacity.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Help review and strengthen monitoring and evaluation plans and support in the drafting of indicators
  • Review baseline, end line and evaluation reports, editing for clarity and consistency and comparing with other key project data
  • Coordinate with program focal points to review M&E components of donor reports
  • Create maps and other visual aids to support management in using data for decision making
  • Suggest enhancements to various databases and knowledge management tools
  • Conduct portfolio analysis including data visualization using AMS and Agresso
  • Conduct research on other data/business management software and prepare comparative analysis
  • Support DHR teams as requested with IT-related tasks to support technological innovation
Educational Background: 
Must be an actively enrolled undergraduate, graduate or post-graduate student or have graduated within 6 months of start date
Skills/Experience: 
  • Strong data management, visualization and analysis skills
  • Familiarity with Python and/or DAX, and advanced Excel knowledge (with knowledge of Macros and VBA preferred).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Strong interest in humanitarian issues
  • Strong collaboration skills, and ability to synthesize ideas to create data solutions
  • Currently eligible to work in the U.S.
  • Possess strong written skills, solid interpersonal skills and ability to work within a team
