Every year, Save the Children responds to multiple large-scale and complex emergencies around the world. In 2018, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance (OFDA) awarded Save the Children with a three-year initiative to lead a global consortium aimed at strengthening capacity for response to major infectious disease outbreaks or pandemics. Known as READY, the initiative exists to augment global capacity to respond to outbreaks of infectious disease with epidemic or pandemic potential that rise to the level of a humanitarian emergency. 

Save the Children is recruiting a Learning and Development (L&D) Specialist to support members of the READY Initiative to deliver quality trainings to enhance the knowledge and skills on epidemics and public health emergencies of international concern. The L&D Specialist will support and coordinate the processes related to the development and rollout of training programs and materials. The L&D Specialist will work with Consortium members, vendors, academic institutions, training providers and respective field Specialists to coordinate the development and delivery of trainings.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Coordinate the delivery of training and learning plans based on input from the READY core team and consortium members: 40%
    • Plan face-to-face trainings with the lead technical advisor of the Core Team and expert leads of the Consortium; 
    • Manage logistics and execution of regional and national trainings targeted toward consortium members, regional technical and operational staff, program and operations leads from countries across the region, and select partners;
    • Liaise with technical partners and e-learning vendors on the development of e-learning resources, in coordination with consortium partners, and facilitate continued learning activities through a community of practice. 
  • Project manage and operationalize roll-out of blended learning/training strategies to best engage adult learners across online courses and in-person training. 20%
  • Support consortium members by managing the L&D workplan to implement and disseminate training programs and materials. 20%
  • Facilitate coordination and communication processes among the consortium partners, to support the development and roll out of learning activities for multi-sectoral disease outbreak response. 15%
  • Assist in the reporting, analysis and evaluation of training programs and L&D activities and measure performance and needs for improvement. 5%
Educational Background: 
High School diploma is required
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in project management, with a strong preference for learning and development
  • Professional level of specialized knowledge to manage complex tasks, programs or projects
  • International and/or Domestic Travel: Minimum of 30%

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Bachelors degree in public health, education, international affairs, or other relevant field
  • Demonstrated experience in humanitarian programming
  • Demonstrated experience facilitating multi-day trainings
  • Professional competency in a second, relevant language (e.g. French, Arabic)
  • Demonstrated experience working in a multi-cultural environment
