The Gender Policy & Advocacy Specialist will support efforts to advance gender equality and empowering women & girls internationally and through the U.S. government’s foreign policy. This portfolio is part of Save the Children’s global campaign on exclusion called Every Last Child. Over the next three years, Save the Children commits to tackling barriers – such as financing, data, and discrimination - that exclude millions of children from making progress towards our three 2030 breakthroughs: that no child under five dies from preventable causes; all children learn through quality education; and violence against children is no longer tolerated. Our campaign will help bring to life our strategic focus on the most deprived and marginalized children -- with a specific focus in our international advocacy on reaching girls as well as children in conflict.
The Specialist will work closely with our Director of Gender Policy & Advocacy and other members of our gender team to implement advocacy strategies that serve to strengthen U.S. and global leadership on issues related to gender equality and women’s and girls’ empowerment. The Specialist will support Save the Children’s leadership and participation in Washington-based gender coalitions and our legislative strategy on Capitol Hill. The Specialist will also collaborate with Save the Children program colleagues to leverage expertise from our country programs and to contribute to gender mainstreaming within the organization.
