Located in our Washington, DC office, this position provides support to the Director of Talent Management and Engagement in the design and implementation of programs aimed at increasing employee engagement across the Agency. The Specialist, Employee Engagement will provide full ownership of the multi-faceted onboarding program, anniversary recognition programs, organizational policy management, DC based social events, and DC based volunteerism. The Specialist, Employee Engagement will share ownership of the President’s Award Program, HR communications, HR analytics & reporting, Cornerstone maintenance, organizational effectiveness and other projects as needed.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Onboarding (35%)

  • Responsible for the management and delivery of all aspects of the New Employee Onboarding Program
  • Facilitate all agency onboarding events, including New Employee Orientation (NEO), New Employee Lunch and Learns, and Off-Ramp Focus Groups
  • Assign and track employee compliance trainings in Cornerstone; run reports and notify HR/management on an established timeline
  • Manage the agency wide Peer Sponsorship Program, the MySource Onboarding Portal, and all pre-employee communications with new employees
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen existing programs, and partner with business leaders to incorporate improvements in both agency-wide and division specific onboarding programs

Internal Events (25%)

  • Work closely with the Director of Talent Management and Engagement to develop a yearly calendar of agency wide social events
  • Manage all social events & volunteerism efforts for the DC office, including design, budgeting, communications, vendor management, and day-of execution
  • Act as primary host/facilitator for all DC-based events
  • Monitor and enhance DC-based programs to increase effectiveness and participation over time

Employee Recognition Programs (15%)

  • Responsible for overall management of the Anniversary Recognition Program and Career Service Award Program including reporting, budget adherence, communications and gift distribution
  • Support the Director of Talent Management and Engagement in the execution of the President’s Award process

Employee Job Aids and HR Communications (10%)

  • Create and distribute training materials, job aids, presentations, and other materials on behalf of the HR team
  • Maintain the design, appearance, and content of the Employee Engagement and Onboarding intranet pages using SharePoint software
  • Provide SharePoint support to members of the HR team

Employee Learning and Facilitation (10%)

  • Support the Learning, Development and Engagement Team in facilitating all staff or departmental trainings to encourage individual learning and team-building
  • Identify areas of staff demand for further engagement in agency priorities or external trends and help to develop or improve learning opportunities
  • Provide assistance in the execution of DC-based professional development programs including the Senior Management Development Program, Development Boost, Core, and DevelopU, among others

Policy Management (5%)

  • Responsible for the overall management and maintenance of the SCUS Policy Library including collecting, formatting, and publishing all SCUS policies in a centralized online location
  • Work closely with departments across the organization to ensure that policies are current, clear, and effectively communicated
  • Update HR policies and procedures as required, and inform members of the HR team when applicable
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned
Educational Background: 
High School or Technical/Vocational Degree
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum 3-5 years' experience in area of expertise
  • Professional level of specialized knowledge to manage complex tasks, programs or projects
  • Ability to work independently, organize and set priorities, handle multiple tasks
  • Ability to problem solve and troubleshoot, proactively navigating through organizational processes and protocols
  • Strong analytical skills, with high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Strong desktop computer skills including advanced knowledge or Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Highly professional interpersonal and communication skills; ability to be a positive ambassador for the Engagement team and HR in general
  • Ability to work with all levels of management
  • Must be highly reliable in terms of attendance and meeting deadlines

Preferred Qualifications

  • College degree or equivalent preferred
  • HR experience highly desired
  • Experience with SharePoint and Cornerstone Learning Management System preferred
