The Specialist, Education in Emergencies (EiE) will support Save the Children’s Return to Learninginitiative, an education in emergencies (EiE) package of interventions designed to reinforce displaced children’s academic skills and social and emotional needs immediately following displacement. In addition, in close collaboration with the Director and Advisor, Education in Emergencies, the Specialist will provide technical support to Save the Children’s EiE portfolio, which is comprised of awards from both United States Government (USG) and private donors, implemented in 15+ countries. Technical support will include proposal development, project management and implementation support to country offices. This person may also deploy as part of a humanitarian team to ensure Save the Children US can fulfill our global responsibilities to the education in emergencies sector. The Specialist should expect to be deployed up to 40% of the time to support Save the Children’s Global Humanitarian Surge Platform (GHSP).
Return to Learning-- Program Support and Delivery- (40%)
- Supports the implementation of the Return to Learning program in current and new contexts
- Work closely with country office staff to develop workplans, budgets, and proposals
- Conduct trainings with country office and member staff on the Return to Learning package materials and related assessments
- Maintain up-to-date information on all aspects of the Return to Learning initiative; provide updates to the Education in Emergencies (EiE), Basic education (BE), and Research teams and write quarterly project reports for submission to donors
- Support the Return to Learning initiative to internal audiences, including the Department of Humanitarian response, Child Protection, Resource Development, Public Policy, etc., as well as external audiences including (but not limited to) Education in Crisis & Conflict Network (ECCN) and Interagency Network for Education in Emergencies (INEE).
Education in Emergencies—Technical support (20%)
- Provide technical assistance to all areas of the Education in Emergencies portfolio, specifically to increase collaboration with Child Protection, Public Policy and Advocacy, and the Research and Learning team
- Contribute to proposals, concept notes, and other fundraising opportunities
- Work closely with the Director, Education in Emergencies on knowledge management and portfolio organization activities
- Support regional and country offices to develop case studies, reports, and other multi-media materials to document program promising practices, innovations, and successes
- Conduct trainings in country offices when deployed to build local capacity
- Contribute to the revision and/or development of Save the Children US’s EiE technical packages
- Contribute to presentations to both internal and external audiences to represent the EiE portfolio, as needed.
Deployable Capacity (40%) Support the GHSP by deploying to responses to cover critical roles, such as Education Program Manager, Education Technical Advisor, and Education Cluster Coordinator
- On deployment, support the development of proposals, conduct trainings, and support local capacity building of country office staff and partners
- Coordinate with the Global Education Cluster and GHSP
- Minimum 3-5 years' experience in area of expertise related to EIE (conflict-sensitive education, social and emotional learning, etc.)
- Technical knowledge of issues associated with refugee education, social-emotional learning and psychosocial support, humanitarian issues, the Global Compact on Refugees, and child protection
- Ability to travel internationally up to 40% of the time, including ability to deploy to large-scale emergencies within 72 hours of a request as part of the humanitarian response team
- Strong writing, editing, and communication skills, including cross-cultural communication skills
- Strong project management skills and experience, including across various offices and cultures and contexts
