The New Business Development Senior Specialist is a senior position within the Haiti Country Office (CO) Programme. Candidate will identify and track donor opportunities, facilitate donor engagement, assist in the development of fundraising strategies, and coordinate proposal development for large and strategic funding opportunities. The position requires innovative thinking and creativity to package our programme strategies in ways that attract the right donor support to grow our portfolio effectively. Candidate will write sections of proposals that speak to our overall capabilities, while coordinating the input of technical advisors, Operations, Finance, HR and Security into proposals and budgets. Recognizing that many conversations with donors involve a review or update around current grants as well as discussions about new opportunities, the New Business Development Senior Specialist will also be expected to keep closely informed about the progress of all major institutional grants and be able to speak to results in key reporting documents. They will be responsible for overseeing the development of high quality, innovative programs that deliver immediate and lasting change for children and monitoring the quality of the implementation of those programs. The role will have an external orientation, and will work very closely with Save the Children Members. 

Areas of Responsibility: 

Management 30%

  • Develop/strengthen and maintain systems to track positioning and donor engagement strategies, monitor opportunity pipelines, and manage information necessary for effective capture planning and proposal development, in collaboration with CO staff

New Business Development 40%

  • Ensure the design and development of child-focused emergency and development programs of a high quality that contribute to the CO’s strategies and plans, informed by child participation where possible
  • Coordinate and provide strategic leadership direction, guidance and technical support to enhance the new business development function in the Haiti office.
  • Help develop CO quality control mechanisms through the management of capture and bid efforts, including team management; writing, reviewing and editing proposal sections;
  • Work with technical teams to connect Save the Children’s program strategy with donor interests

External Engagement 25%

  • Identify, research, and disseminate information on new funding opportunities from bilateral, multi-lateral, and other institutional donors. Use creative approaches to link programme aspirations to donor priorities, while also effectively influencing the strategies of donors.
  • Cultivate business relationships with external stakeholders and potential partners
  • Assist CO staff to develop and maintain documentation on the successes, results, and lessons from CO past performance, suitable for proposal and capacity statements
  • Work with senior CO staff to build and strengthen relationships with appropriate contacts in donor, government, and partner organizations

Capacity Building 5%

  • Seek training opportunities and resources to build capacity of programme staff – i. proposal development, report writing, reporting project cycle management, or donor compliance.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Recommended 5-7 years’ experience in both an emergency and development contexts, preferably with solid experience in at least two (2) priority sectors of Save the Children: education, protection, child rights governance, health and nutrition
  • Experience in both development and complex emergencies preferred
  • Proven ability to design high-quality programs
  • Proven track record in producing winning bids and proposals for Institutional donors, corporates and others
  • Educational background in Social Sciences/Development to Master degree level, or equivalent experience
  • Cross-cultural awareness and ability to work in an international environment with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Strong results orientation, with the ability to challenge existing mind s
  • Experience in solving complex issues through analysis, definition of a clear way forward.
  • Ability to present complex information in a succinct and compelling manner.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Able and willing to travel international up to 20% of the time.
