The Senior Specialist, Child Protection will provide high-quality technical support for Save the Children’s work in Child Protection, especially focusing on family strengthening and orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) programming. This role will contribute to strategic plans, and develop and maintain key external partnerships with other Save the Children members, donors, and key stakeholders to advance and expand our Child Protection work. This role will provide technical leadership on new business development opportunities—from capture through proposal development—especially on USAID and PEFPAR opportunities. The Senior Specialist, Child Protection will provide technical support to country offices, particularly on knowledge management, data analysis and use, and program learning and innovation.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Technical Leadership and Quality Programming—20%

  • Provide regular in-person and remote technical assistance to country offices in developing strategies for Child Protection, especially in the areas of family strengthening and children affected by HIV/AIDS
  • Review and provide feedback to program inputs, outputs and processes, including logical and result frameworks, implementation work plans, assessments and research designs, program and training manuals/ materials of current Child Protection portfolio of family strengthening and OVC programs
  • Build country program staff capacity on program management, Child Protection technical areas, and the use of M&E tools and systems
  • Assist in the adaptation of tools, manuals, technical guidance and other evidence-based Child Protection resources to new contexts and programs
  • Recommend and lead implementation of new technical inputs to improve Child Protection outcomes for the most marginalized children

Program Learning and Innovation—20%

  • Document successful approaches in family strengthening and OVC programs, and recommend how to incorporate across current portfolio and incorporate into new projects
  • Identify best practices from field programs, test/evaluate/help to document them, and promote uptake more widely among partners and program community
  • Identify evidence gaps and priorities for research and documentation
  • Contribute to knowledge management, internal and external communication, and dissemination of data/ results
  • Contribute to a culture of “learning through failing” that builds creativity and innovation

Public and Private Resource Mobilization—50%

  • Establish and maintain relationships with key donors that contribute to the Child Protection team’s long-term funding strategies
  • Provide technical leadership for large-scale new business opportunities, including technical inputs for capture analysis, partnering decisions, and project design and measurement
  • Oversee and lead on the technical development, writing, and submission of quality proposals for small-scale new business opportunities

Global Program Strategy and Market Positioning—10%

  • Contribute to Save the Children’s Child Protection strategy development and implementation, liaising with other program colleagues, departments, and country offices
  • Represent Save the Children to external audiences and networks, especially those prioritized and aligned with our strategy, and play key role in linking with USG opportunities
  • Collaborate with global partners to develop new evidence and start of the art approaches for Child Protection
Educational Background: 
Bachelor degree, or equivalent relevant experience in Child Development, Social Work, International Affairs, or other related fields
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum 5-7 years of experience in Child Protection, or related programs
  • Experience providing technical guidance on designing, implementing, monitoring and evaluation, and reporting for large-scale USAID programs
  • Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated capacity to be a team player and to work independently and with initiative when needed
  • Ability to prioritize multiple deadlines and deliverables across a portfolio of projects and new business opportunities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills that facilitate learning and ownership cross-culturally
  • Ability to travel internationally, approximately, 40-50% of the time

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree or its equivalent in Social Work
  • Experience living and working in developing country contexts
  • Experience in program design, proposal development, and reporting for PEPFAR and/ or private foundations
  • Demonstrated experience developing technical assistance, programmatic guidance, or training curriculums
  • Familiarity with and commitment to addressing gender equality in programming
  • Qualitative and quantitative program monitoring and evaluation skills
  • French or Spanish language skills
