The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) Senior National Service Officer, Appeals, manages all VA (Department of Veterans Affairs) claims obtained in the field. Mentors WWP National Service Officer’s within their area of jurisdiction. Manages and maintains all appealed claims to include the full jurisdiction of claims at the Board of Veterans Affairs.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Extensive knowledge and experience involving all DOD programs and VA laws and regulations
- Work within DOD, VBA and VHA offices to ensure timely and professional care of warriors
- Remain current with all VA laws and regulations
- Remain current with all DOD regulations and benefits
- Recruit new volunteers, Alumni and Interns to support the WWP needs
- Maintain and update all WWP intranet electronic tracking systems
- Develop community support and to speak on behalf of WWP
- Extensive knowledge of the Appellant Process
- Maintain and prepare briefs for all pending appeals located at Board of Veterans Appeals
- Review administrative errors or other documents being prepared for submission to Central Office for consideration
- Conduct pre-hearing and post hearing interviews
- Conduct hearings at the Board of Veterans Appeals
- Maintain yearly VA laws and regulations certification
- Must have the ability and the dedication to travel in support of the outreach needs of the organization
- Other related duties as assigned
Educational Background:
High school diploma or GED required. Bachelor’s degree in government affairs, social work, or a related field preferred

Education & Experience Requirements
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience as a Veterans Benefits advocate required
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience dedicated to working appeals at the Board of Veterans Appeals required. In lieu of advocate and appeals experience, Juris Doctorate will be considered
- High level of proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office programs required
- Demonstrated proficiency in developing and providing training on complex benefits related topics
