PSI’s External Relations & Communications (ERC) department positions PSI as a development NGO of the future and thought leader working to get to Universal Health Care. We nurture strategic relationships with donors and partners, support global services and in-country teams with external relations and provide strategic advocacy support. We work hard and laugh a lot together.
We are looking for a Senior Manager, Strategic Communications, to play a key role in setting the strategy for and overseeing the team delivering strategic public relations, marketing, content creation and dissemination to support PSI’s advocacy, communications and influencing agenda.
Reporting to the Director, ERC, the Senior Manager, Strategic Communications, will oversee ERC’s content strategy and implementation, which includes earned and owned media, digital and traditional outreach, as well as media relations. This will include the following:
- Serve clients from technical and project teams, as well as 50+ network members in devising strategies for positioning, strategy and thought leadership dissemination tactics.
- Develop or manage asset creation including marketing and blog content, magazine articles, social media shareables, infographics.
- Manage the dissemination and promotion of PSI’s owned content, using paid and organic strategies for media channels including PSI’s website, daily blog, social media outlets, print publications, and interactive microsites.
- Act as managing editor for Impact magazine.
- Develop strategies and materials for events such as Women Deliver, International Conference of Family Planning, International AIDS Conference and UNC Water and Health, among others.
- Travel internationally to conduct communications trainings for PSI network partners on storytelling, advocacy, message creation, crisis communications, and annual communications planning to align with PSI’s strategic objectives.
- Manage relationships with outside agency partners to help create collateral material, paid media campaigns and digital strategies.
- Strategize and create key marketing materials such as fact sheets, sell sheets and marketing brochures.
- Act as a liaison and advocacy lead for certain health areas or projects, working in partnership with the Senior Manager, Advocacy.
- Plan and pitch media engagements, including in-country, as strategy demands.
- Support on crisis communications when appropriate.
- Oversee up to three staff people including the Associate Manager, Digital and Associate Manager, Content.

The basics:
- Strong interest in public health, women and girls and poverty alleviation.
- A minimum of 5 years managing internal teams, mentoring employees and working with external consultants and vendors a must;
- 7-10 years of experience creating polished and impactful communications and marketing materials;
- Demonstrated success in social and digital media strategy (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, blogging).
- Proven experience overseeing production of high-quality multi-media communications.
- Must have excellent messaging and public speaking abilities, and the ability to teach them to junior and senior staff.
- Ability to lead groups of disparate viewpoints.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint) and Office 365.
- Able to juggle multiple competing deadlines without getting flustered and with a sense of humor.
What would get us excited?
- Understanding of international health advocacy desired.
- Demonstrated experience with promotion and communications for global family planning and/or adolescent and youth sexual and reproductive health programs, malaria, HIV and sanitation is a plus.
- Experience working with large, multinational and intercultural teams.
