The Senior Maternal and Reproductive Health Director is responsible for the overall strategic development, implementation, monitoring and accountability of Save the Children’s work in Maternal and Reproductive Health (MRH) including Adolescent Sexual Reproductive Health,Family Planning and Maternal Health. The Senior Director works in collaboration with Global Health Senior Leadership Team members to define the strategic direction, ensure program quality, identify funding opportunities, and guide the Department of Global Health’s (DGH) efforts to achieve results at scale. The Senior Director is a key member of the DGH Senior Leadership Team and plays a leadership role in advancing all MRH work in support of the Agency’s strategic plan. Globally, the incumbent will serve as a key advocate and spokesperson for MRH on behalf of Save the Children. The incumbent will lead and manage a team of technical advisors and specialists to ensure program quality; oversee program learning and innovation; collaborate and mobilize resources towards objectives of improved Reproductive Health.
Strategic Vision, Leadership, and Planning (25%)
- In consultation with the VP DGH, AVPs DGH and other key technical leaders, and relevant agency stakeholders, define the maternal and reproductive health (MRH) strategy, direction, and objectives
- Lead MRH strategic and operational planning, monitor and measure performance, and ensure progress against established objectives
- Provide thought leadership and oversight to ensure that the MRH programs are applying state-of-the-art approaches and delivering high quality programs to achieve increased use of RH services and practices at scale at the country and global level
- Develop strategies and relationships with country offices and staff that build capacity to design and deliver quality programs
- Monitor and report upon progress made in relation to the goals and objectives, both at the global and country level, including overseeing the preparation of new funding applications.
Support Resource Mobilization (25%)
- Identify and pursue opportunities to expand and grow Maternal and Reproductive Health activities both within DGH and across sectors
- In coordination with DGH leadership and thematic technical leads, and other relevant Business Teams provide leadership for MRH resource mobilization to identify and pursue opportunities for integrating reproductive health with other agency programs (education, livelihoods)
- Provide senior technical support and assistance for designing and implementing evidence based Maternal and Reproductive Health programming at scale
- Support proposal development processes, provide technical inputs, review and guidance, and draft content as needed for proposals, work plans, and reports.
Technical Leadership and Support for Quality Maternal and Reproductive Health Programs (20%)
- Serve as internal and external expert on MRH and represent SC at global fora including workshops, conferences and meetings
- Provide thought leadership for SC US for MRH
- Provide leadership role in shaping and supporting the SC US commitment to MRH policies and programs worldwide across all four strategies reflected in our "theory of change"
- Work with other DGH technical leaders, other relevant Business Teams and the Survive Breakthrough members to build capacity in the design and delivery of sustainable, high impact, and quality RH programs (both HQ and Field)
- Collaborate with newborn technical lead in defining an integrated MNH programming approach
- Lead development of evidence-based program standards, guidance, and tools that reflect global best practice, and promote widespread application and use of these standards and tools
- Provide technical leadership to ensure programs are of high quality and develop new state of the art approaches
- Influence policymakers both in the US and other donor countries, within multilateral development institutions, and in developing countries on matters related to MRH.
Human Resource Management (15%)
- Provides management oversight, working closely with the AVP DGH, including headquarters, regional, and country-based staff. This includes recruitment, mentoring, supervision and routine portfolio and performance reviews
- Ensure funding for HO based staff is incorporated into RH related proposals
- Serve on the DGH Senior Leadership Team and undertake department level responsibilities as assigned
- Attract, retain and support the growth of high quality RH technical advisors.
Knowledge Management and Program Learning (10%)
- Expand agency capacity for documentation and dissemination of program results in close coordination with DGH’s Knowledge Management team
- Work with DGH team members, SCI global movement and country office staff to share learning and represent work with donors and potential partners
- Document and disseminate SC’s Maternal and Reproductive Health experience and program learning to address global health needs
- Ensure that all Maternal and Reproductive Health essential information and materials produced in programs have been posted to SaveNet / OneNet and shared with the Survive Breakthrough.
Advocacy (5%)
- In collaboration with the Public Policy and Advocacy team, the Survive Breakthrough, and other SC US and SCI stakeholders lead development of Reproductive Health-related policy and advocacy positions, and support their dissemination.
- Minimum 10-15 years of applicable experience in international public health programming in developing countries, with emphasis on reproductive health
- Thorough knowledge of state of the art approaches for reproductive health with a focus on maternal health and family planning
- Demonstrated capacity to lead proposal development and program design
- Proven ability to develop and support RH
- Familiarity with USAID policies, strategies, and program priorities, preferably at global and country level
- Experience in working on USAID programs
- Experience working at the country level
- Experience leading a team and providing technical advice, guidance and direction related to various size programs and grants
- Training and facilitation skills
- Excellent representational, oral and writing skills
- Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work effectively in a team situation, and in cross-cultural settings
- Ability and willingness to travel up to 30% of time mostly internationally

Preferred Qualifications
- MD/MPH, DrPH, or PhD (health sciences), accompanied by strong program design, management, and implementation experience strongly preferred
- Additional language ( French a plus)
