The Senior Communications Coordinator will report to the Communications and Documentation Specialist, with close linkages to the Resilience and Livelihoods Director. The position will focus on internal and external communication, documentation, and socialization of activities, products, and initiatives of the Resilience Evaluation, Analysis and Learning (REAL) Award. Tasks will include designing, writing, editing, and proofreading materials and publications, supporting reporting on REAL activities as well as outreach efforts via a number of channels.
Support the Communications and Documentation Specialist in implementing communications and knowledge management strategies for the REAL Award:
Communications – 60%
- Support the production of publications, including editing, proofreading, and graphic design.
- Ensure all publications produced by REAL follow USAID branding and marking guidelines, including making them 508 compliant.
- Maintain, enhance and regularly update the REAL webpage and Twitter account.
Knowledge Management– 40%
- Support all REAL socialization activities, including the planning and production of webinars and workshops.
- Prepare and disseminate information promoting REAL activities and publications to both external and internal audiences using a number of channels such as listservs, social media (Twitter, Workplace), newsletters, etc.
- With the Communications and Documentation Specialist, develop and implement strategies to monitor, evaluate, and report on the effectiveness of knowledge management activities.
- Three to four years of experience in communications for international affairs, journalism, and/or international development.
- Outstanding English skills in writing and editing public information or promotional materials, annual reports, newsletters, project or grant proposals, and briefing papers.
- Ability to develop, edit, and update web content and other media such as blogs, tweets, and podcasts, and to prepare computer-based presentations and informational learning materials.
- Skilled in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel.
- Knowledgeable about Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Workplace.
- Familiarity with US Government-funded projects, particularly USAID.
- Demonstrated experience working on communications, documentation, and media production.
- Highly collaborative team player willing and able to pitch in as needed and work on tight deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in communications, journalism, development, international affairs, public relations, or related area.
- Experience with Adobe Design Suite or similar graphic design application strongly preferred.
- Experience in organizing and setting up public events and conferences.
- Familiarity with 508 compliance.
- Experience working in or supporting international development or emergency programs in developing countries.
- Foreign language skills in French or Spanish.
