Senior Coordinator, Communications--IDEAL project

Led by Save the Children, the Implementer-Led Design, Evidence, Analysis and Learning (IDEAL) activity is funded by USAID’s Office of Food for Peace (FFP) and aims to strengthen the capacity of FFP implementing partners to design and implement effective emergency and development food security programs. The Senior Communications Coordinator will focus on internal and external communication, documentation, and socialization of activities and products of IDEAL, including the ongoing food security activities PRO-WASH, SCALE and REAL, and similar future awards. Tasks will include formatting and proofreading materials, supporting reporting on IDEAL activities as well as outreach efforts via a number of channels, including the Food Security and Nutrition (FSN) Network (www.fsnnetwork.org).

The position will support the implementation of IDEAL’s communications strategy and will collaborate closely with the other members of the IDEAL Knowledge Management and Communications team to ensure consistent and high-quality messaging about IDEAL activities and results.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Communications - 70%

  • Support the implementation of IDEAL’s communications, branding and documentation strategies, ensuring harmonization with existing food security Associate Awards and coordinating with new IDEAL Associate Awards as they are established;
  • Support the development and adherence to uniform standards, formats, and style guidance for IDEAL publications, materials, and presentations;
  • Format and proofread a range of products, including manuals, evaluations, workshop reports, briefing papers, Annual Progress Reports, Annual Work Plans, A/V presentations, dashboards, infographics, etc.
  • Help to ensure all publications, videos and other products follow IDEAL and USAID branding and marking guidelines, including making anything that is published online 508 compliant.
  • Support strategies to monitor, evaluate and report on the effectiveness of IDEAL’s communications efforts;
  • Prepare information promoting IDEAL and FSN Network-sponsored or supported events and activities towards key audiences, both external and internal;
  • Draft the bi-monthly FSN Network newsletter, curating content from across FSN Network members and other key stakeholders in the emergency and development food security programming;
  • Support the management and maintenance of the IDEAL contact database
  • Support the development of content for the FSN Network website and regularly update the website, including the subpages for associate awards;
  • Support the production of promotional materials that inform key audiences about the associate awards’ activities;
  • Arrange/facilitate translation of materials to other languages.

Knowledge Management – 30 %

  • Support planning and implementation of IDEAL regional and domestic knowledge sharing events (in-person and online), including but not limited to production of meeting materials, invitations, registration forms, event set-up, and day-of facilitation and communications activities, including social media outreach;
  • Support the associate awards with webinar production and in-person events as needed;
  • Update IDEAL’s descriptive and briefing materials.
Educational Background: 
High School or Technical/Vocational Degree
Skills/Experience: 
  • Three to four years of relevant work experience
  • Ability to develop, edit, and update web content
  • Highly proficient in spoken and written English
  • Skilled in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel; Skilled in Adobe Cloud Software (primarily InDesign)
  • Knowledgeable about how to use social media channels such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn, and RSS feeds
  • Highly collaborative team player with willingness to pitch in as needed and ability to work on tight deadlines at times
  • Willingness and ability to travel 10-15% of the time – primarily internationally

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, development, international affairs, public relations, or related area
  • Experience working in a developing country in international development or emergency programs, preferably with communications responsibilities
  • Experience in organizing translations for English language materials where necessary
  • Familiarity with US Government-funded projects, particularly USAID
  • Familiarity with food security programming
  • Knowledge of second languages a plus, especially French or Spanish
  • Experience running webinars, preferably using Zoom and/or Adobe Connect
