The SHN Specialist will provide technical assistance to SHN programs to specific countries/programs to ensure quality programming. The SHN Specialist contributes to the global leadership of SC/US by assisting in strategic and operational plans for SHN in country offices and at home offices. The SHN Specialist contributes in developing and implementing capacity-building activities and SHN program documentation.
The SHN Specialist will initially:
- Support sponsorship funded SHN programming in Zambia using Save the Children's Common Approach to Sponsorship Programming (CASP) tools
- Support the development of road safety programming within the education/SHN sector as outlined in the grant application to FIA Foundation
- Support the management of multi-country (China, Philippines, Vietnam) project Wrigley Funded SHN programming
Areas of Responsibility:
- Provide regular technical assistance to specific countries in formulating program designs and country strategies for SHN and its links with Education and Health programs (20%)
- Support country staff capacity strengthening in the use of M&E tools and adapting them as needed and assist in the compilation, analysis and dissemination of information/data collected through the M&E plan including provide assistance in designing, analyzing and documenting operational research projects. Assist in developing baseline instruments, implementing surveys, compiling and analyzing results, and producing and disseminating baseline reports. (10%)
- Network and maintain communications with potential donors and partners and assist in the preparation of proposals to USG and other donors (10%)
- Assist in developing and implementing group-oriented program learning and capacity building activities. This may include developing study tour curricula, participating in and/or organizing Program Learning Group (PLG) sessions, and identifying other opportunities for cross-program exchanges. (10%)
- Identify and facilitate field-based staff participation in training and capacity-building activities through other organizations. (10%)
- Compiling information and assisting in drafting of SHN Situational Analyses, where needed and develop and update program results frameworks, program action plans, including plans for monitoring and evaluation, and other program design and implementation documents. (20%)
- Maintain regular communication with and between field staff through the SHN mailing list, updating them with recent publications or events. (10%)
- Support the management of centrally funded projects (10%)
Educational Background:
High School Diploma
Skills/Experience:
- Have a minimum 3-5 years' experience in area of expertise or related area.
- Professional level of specialized knowledge to manage complex tasks, programs or projects.
- Experience in designing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating SHN related programs.
- Ability to travel, approximately, 20-30% of the time.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to lead and work effectively in diverse situations
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Second Language preferred.
- Bachelor’s, Master’s degree/MPH or higher with significant experience in related field, preferred.
- Self-directed and ambitious.
