Project Director, Knowledge SUCCESS (Strengthening Use, Capacity, Collaboration, Exchange, Synthesis, and Sharing) Project

PSI is seeking an experienced Project Director who will manage and oversee implementation of project activities and coordinate multiple partners. The Project Director should have: significant senior leadership experience, track record in leading large knowledge management programs, including financial management and international development experience; a demonstrated track record in successfully managing government, donor, and sub-grantee relations; a deep understanding of family planning / reproductive health rights, programming approaches and current issues  that animate the community of practice; and experience and expertise in knowledge management programming in low and middle income countries, with a focus on using digital technologies to promote collection, dissementation and the use of knowledge. The project director must have previous experience in public health and family planning and understand key issues in the related communities of practice, particularly relevant to the the twenty-two (22) Office of Population and Reproductive Healthpriority countries. The successful candidate will have experience convening a community of practice and also have  experience measuring and promoting data/knowledge use among practitioners.  

This position will be based in Washington, DC and will require strong coordination with PSI platform program managers, teams, and implementing partners. This person will report to the Director of PSI’s Evidence and RH departments, while working closely with the project Family Planning Advisor in addition to other technical teams.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Serve as main point of contact/representative of the project to the donor and consortium members.
  • Develop strategies and workplans to promote knowledge use among FP/RH implementers; work with resource partners to leverage technology to promote knowledge sharing and use; contonuosly engage the community of practice and create an excitement about knowledge sharing; develop innovative means of tracking knowledge use across a wide variety of RH/FP program implementers.
  • Represent the consortium’s objectives and capabilities to various country missions, and actively help to secure their buy in.
  • Develop project-wide and country specific implementation work plans including timelines and assigned roles and responsibilities for all consortium members and sub-awardees; manage the roles of all consortium members and sub-awardees including through appropriate delegation to other members of the core PSI management team.
  • Ensure the appropriate regulatory authorities are an integral part of the planning and implementation process.
  • Assist in design, implementation and oversight of program activities, working closely with implementing teams across the consortium.
  • Ensure all project deliverables, as stated in the agreement, are achieved on time and to the highest standard.
  • Provide effective guidance and support to technical members of the in-country management teams, as well as short–term technical consultants.
  • Supervise program management and financial management role including oversight of:
    • Donor financial reports, project budgets, monitoring of project expenditure, compliance of financial systems and controls with donor standards
    • Tracking and achievement of all project deliverables per the contract
    • Sub-contract development and negotiations with consortium members
  • Lead the design and implementation of the documentation and dissemination strategy of project research results and program learnings through workshops, working papers and the Internet.
  • Ensure high-quality periodic reporting in line with the donor and PSI requirements.
Educational Background: 
Has a Master’s degree in public health, knowledge management (KM) or a related field
Skills/Experience: 
  • At least 10 years’ experience in international health programming OR a Bachelor’s degree in public health, knowledge management or a related field with at least 20 years’ experience in international health programming.
  • At least 10 years’ experience in senior-level management positions.
  • Proven experience leading large and complex projects primarily focused on Knowledge management and Family Planning / Reproductive Health, preferably for USAID.Demonstrated experience in effectively engaging partners and managing multi-partner consortia;
  • Demonstrates strong communication skills and innovation and flexibility in technical practice and/or management; and
  • Has experience interacting with U.S. government agencies including overseas offices.
  • Fluency in oral and written English

  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills, extensive computer skills, interpersonal and cross-cultural skills, and be highly motivated and organized.
