The American Heart Association (AHA) has an excellent opportunity for a Policy Research Fellow in our Advocacy office located in Washington DC (Remote/Home Based is acceptable) .
The Policy Research Fellow is responsible for supporting the activities of the policy research department. The special focus of this fellowship will be on evaluating policy implementation and forecasting the strategic impact of our work in advocacy. Other responsibilities will include: contributing to policy development in the appropriate area of expertise; translating AHA science into policy statements and recommendations for use in state and federal advocacy; researching federal and state issues and preparing background papers; conducting literature reviews; and participating in internal cross-organization issue teams.
- Researches and translates implementation science and helps create a process for summarizing the health and equity impact of our work in advocacy. May include some original research and modeling.
- Develops policy statements (published and unpublished), model regulatory comments, model legislation, policy briefs, and other material to support, position and build the AHA advocacy and programmatic efforts.
- Interacts with relevant government agencies and manages a certain number of external relationships with coalitions and partners aligned with the assigned advocacy portfolio.
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience researching and developing policy implementation evaluation.
- Comprehensive writing and speaking skills.
- Ability to develop external relationships with government agencies, national coalitions, or other potential partners for AHA advocacy work.
