Create visual concepts, grow brands, and develop impactful designs to engage, inspire and inform. Typical assignments across a wide range of print and digital media include: designing brand identities, social media graphics, advertisements, infographics, diagrams, publications, brochures, training curricula, posters, conference materials and signage, web design, PowerPoint presentations, and emails. Knowledge in videography, animation and illustration is a plus. The focus of this position will be designing for four consumer health communication campaigns, creating a wide variety of products that support the organization's work in HIV prevention and treatment.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Conceptualize and create a wide range of print and digital materials from concept through execution.
  • Present varied, distinct design solutions to visual communication tasks.
  • Advise and articulate strategic design rationale in discussions, presentations and correspondence.
  • Collaborate with other designers and clients.
  • Ability to build rapport with clients and team members to nurture productive professional working relationships.
  • Execute revisions efficiently and accurately, and meet all deadlines and budget parameters.
  • Prepare digital files for dissemination and posting.
  • Prepare print-ready files and work with print vendors.
  • Contribute to business development activities, including writing proposal sections related to design work.
  • Maintain archive of projects following the established file structure and organization.
  • Continuously build on and improve design skills as relevant to changing industry standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Additional related skills are a plus: video production (storyboards, art direction, editing), animation/motion graphics (such as animated GIFs and short videos), html, illustration, translating data into infographics, Section 508-compliance.

  • Works on problems that are diverse in scope and require judgment in resolving or making recommendations for solutions.

  • Exercises judgment within defined policies and procedures to obtain solutions to perform duties.

Supervision Given/Received:

  • Has no supervisory responsibility.
  • Receives instructions on new assignments.
  • Reports to a Manager and Associate Director or Director.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Must have a strong concept-driven portfolio that exhibits a solid background in print and digital design, and demonstrates an impeccable sense of layout, typography and other design principles.
  • Advanced knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite software products (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, etc.) and Microsoft Office suite (Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Foundational knowledge (or greater) of Adobe Premiere Pro and/or After Effects, as well as Section 508-compliance is a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak fluent English.
  • Associate Degree or its International Equivalent in Graphic Design, Communication Design, Publications, or Related Field.
  • Typically requires a minimum 3 - 5 years professional experience in graphic design.
  • Non-governmental organization (NGO) experience is a plus.

Typical Physical Demands:

  • Typical office environment.
  • Ability to spend long hours looking at computer screen and doing repetitive work on a keyboard.
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift 5 - 50 lbs.
