The Office of Government Relations and Advocacy (GRA) leads Habitat’s efforts to advocate for systems, policies and attitudes that advance adequate, affordable housing around the world. Based in Washington, D.C., the GRA team builds the organization’s advocacy capacity by providing the global Habitat network with strategic direction and support to effect change and allow Habitat to serve more families. Additionally, the GRA team maintains relationships with members of Congress, government agencies, non-profits, international organizations, and other policymakers in Washington, D.C. and around the world to inform, advocate, educate, and provide linkages to the field.

What will you build?
As a Global Advocacy Campaign Intern, you will support the launch of HFHI’s first-ever global advocacy campaign, Solid Ground, to improve access to land for shelter. The position will work directly with Habitat’s Global Advocacy Campaign Director and other staff in Habitat’s Government Relations and Advocacy Office as well as our Global Advocacy Team. You will learn from participation on a wide array of projects related to Habitat’s international policy work and the global campaign. You will focus on supporting campaign communications strategy and managing many of its communications channels including the Solid Ground microsite and the campaign blog, newsletters, action alerts, and social media. You will also support the development of tools and resources for Habitat’s country offices.

*This position is approx. 3+ days/week, unpaid internship based at our Government Relations and Advocacy office in Washington, D.C
*This is a January – May 2018 internship

Primary Responsibilities:
· Support launch of HFHI first-ever global advocacy campaign.
· Maintain and grow campaign social media channels and support campaign microsite – solidgroundcampaign.org – upkeep to increase public support for land access for shelter.
· Develop tools and resources to support network capacity building
· Conduct research, analysis, and writing on policy issues that impact housing and international development.
· Attending external meetings, forums and events as requested by staff.
· Additional responsibilities as needed and desired.

Minimum Qualifications:
· Current undergraduate or graduate student
· Understanding of international development and advocacy
· Experience managing social media channels (Twitter, Facebook and Instagram)
· Ability to conduct research
· Exceptional writing, editing, and communication skills
· Strong interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications:
· Campaign, international and/or housing experience
