The Diversity and Inclusion Officer (classified internally as Advisor) is a forward thinking and dynamic change agent who will be responsible for advancing Save the Children’s plan and strategic direction in the areas of diversity, equity and inclusion, supporting alignment in all areas of our organizational culture, including talent acquisition, staff promotion, compensation, evaluation, support, and training and development. Reporting to the Chief Human Resources Officer, the Diversity, and Inclusion Officer will work closely with the Human Resources team, the Diversity and Inclusion Council, Gender Equality Team, Senior Management, workgroups, and affinity groups. This role will help to propel the Agency’s efforts to center the commitment to racial, gender and other equity concerns that will allow Save the Children to build a stronger and more inclusive work culture, which will allow us to better serve the needs of children worldwide.
- Improve organizational success in all staff functions through the lens of equity, diversity, and inclusion by recommending and assisting with the implementation of best practices, appropriate evaluation processes, and measuring organizational benchmarks as it relates to Diversity and Inclusion.
- Build relationships with and serve as a resource, mentor, and diversity and inclusion subject matter expect to Save the Children US staff
- Recognize and address implicit bias, develop practices, policies, trainings and related materials to create a culture that embraces equity, diversity, and inclusion at all levels, highlights the importance of maintaining a culturally sensitive work environment;
- Works with all divisions to create and implement Diversity and Inclusion action plans;
- Conducts an annual diversity, equity, and inclusion State of the Agency survey and report
- Collaborates with Human Resources to manage specific processes and plans to develop and retain staff of color, LGBTQ+, women and other under-represented staff. This includes ensuring staffing reflects Save the Children’s commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion and designing and implementing networking, mentorship, sponsorship, and both formal and informal training opportunities;
- Collects annual reporting data for required Affirmative Action and EEO-1 reports for analysis by external firms, and reports findings and recommended action plans to HR leadership
- Actively monitors progress made on Save the Children’s identified opportunity areas including gathering utilization metrics, feedback from affinity groups, plus diversity hiring and attrition statistics and report recommendations;
- Serves as Human Resources liaison and member at large for the Agency's Diversity and Inclusion workgroups, Gender Equality Hub and represents the Agency with appropriate external entities to improve the organization’s strength and best practices through diversity and inclusion;
- Develops metrics for measuring the effectiveness of diversity and inclusion initiatives implemented and prepares quarterly reports to Human Resources leadership on the value of the initiatives.
- Keeps current on equity, diversity, and inclusion programs and developments by maintaining contact with others in the field (e.g., professional association and educational groups, and professional development efforts);
- Minimum 7 years' experience in the area of diversity and inclusion initiatives, or related field
- Professional level of specialized knowledge to manage complex tasks, programs or projects.
- Highly collaborative style in developing and implementing strategies across various internal and external constituencies; ability to influence and engage peers and the organization;
- Exceptional interpersonal relationship and group facilitation skills; ability to work flexibly with many different leadership and working styles, while providing high-quality customer service
- Action-oriented, solution driven, with a high-level of personal and professional integrity and trustworthiness, along with a strong work ethic;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships, with the innate ability to communicate effectively, both written and orally.
