The Director of Planning and Knowledge Management oversees the development and execution of strategy and ensures efficient and effective information across the U.S. Programs & Advocacy (USPA) division. Partnering with USPA’s SMT, the Director leads the strategic and annual planning process, monitors progress against goals, and makes recommendations for adjustments as needed. The Director is also responsible for knowledge management and internal communications and serves as the point-person for agency priority projects, including continuous improvement. The Director is an individual contributor and not expected to supervise any staff.
Direct strategic and annual business plans for division. (20%)
- Oversee development of strategic and annual business plans. Ensure that goals are measurable, time-bound and realistic and that plans are well-aligned both across USPA and between USPA and relevant divisions within the agency.
- Monitor progress toward goals. Develop quarterly and annual reports for the division and provide strategic counsel to SMT to ensure goals are met or adjusted as needed.
- In partnership with Associate Vice President of Finance & Operations and Associate Vice President of Public Affairs & Development, ensure annual budgets are aligned with plans and revenue forecasts.
Oversee internal communications for the division. (30%)
- Develop and implement plans for ensuring efficient and effective communications within USPA, including Head Start program staff, field staff, and other remote workers.
- Manage monthly business team and town hall meetings. In consultant with Chief of Staff, set meeting agendas. Develop presentations, distribute materials and ensure prompt follow up after meeting.
- Develop and distribute monthly newsletters from SVP.
- Coordinate distribution of SMT meeting notes.
Direct knowledge management for the division. (30%)
- Develop and implement plans for improving knowledge management across the division and between the division and the agency. Evaluate existing platforms and vehicles and work with department heads to set minimum standards and ensure they are met.
Manage other division-wide priority projects. (20%)
- Serve as the point-person for agency priority projects, including continuous improvement. Work with SMT to develop and implement plans for each project.
- You have a minimum 7-10 years' experience in area of expertise
- Strong management and strategic planning, prioritization, and execution skills. Proven ability to set up effective systems of coordination.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Proven record of effectively interacting with senior management.
- Ability to work strategically and collaboratively across departments.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to adapt to a changing work environment and develop creative solutions to strategic challenges.
- If based in Lexington, KY, ability to travel to Washington, DC at least quarterly, if not monthly, for meetings with the SMT and others
