Director of Healthy Eating Strategic Alliances

The American Heart Association (AHA) has an excellent opportunity for a Director of Healthy Eating Strategic Alliances at our office located in Washington, DC.

In this role, you will be an organizational lead in establishing and executing food industry strategy to drive healthier food products for all in America. Responsible for establishing, cultivating and maintaining relationships with food industry executives as well as public health entities and government agencies focused on driving voluntary changes to create a healthier food supply. Informs strategy and collaborates with cross functional team to mobilize AHA consumer audiences to support the alliance strategy. Volunteer management of key AHA committees that advise on market insights and industry practices for prevention/healthy living strategy. Direct supervision of support team including manager and project coordinator position. Collaborator with staff supporting food industry strategy and broader healthy living plan.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Establish and manage strategic alliances with food industry leaders and conveners leading to a culture of health through healthier food product offerings. Similarly establishes and maintains relationships with key public health organizations and government agencies who can partner with AHA on overall food industry strategy.
  • Oversee volunteer management of AHA nutrition diet and business committees including agenda setting, communication, and setting overall strategic direction.
  • Supervision of manager and project coordinator roles that are direct reports. Provides ongoing performance management for team members.
  • Leads overall development of new programming to recognize systems change and positive innovation in the food industry and establish evaluation metrics to drive accountability.
  • Provide leadership to strengthen and refine science translation of impact goals as it pertains to driving systems change for healthy diets with food industry sector and identifies areas of integration and collaboration within the organization to meet these goals. Engages appropriate staff to explore opportunities.
  • Directs activities and strategy for the Industry Nutrition Advisory Panel and uses this forum as a spring board to develop and strengthen alliances with private sector.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Social Science, Marketing, Communications or equivalent work experience
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum eight years of experience in the related field
  • Expert in nutrition science
  • Strategic Alliance and Relationship Management
  • Program development and evaluation
