The Director of Grants and Finance will lead Teach For America – D.C. Region (TFA-DC)’s work to strategically raise funding from foundation, government, corporate and other institutional partners, and to ensure that regional finances are managed conscientiously and in alignment with our regional strategy and supporters’ priorities. As part of a team raising and stewarding $16M in the next 3 years, you will manage the full process of cultivating, stewarding, and reporting to current and prospective institutional donors, working closely with the Chief of Development, Finance, and External Affairs, our Executive Director, the regional team, and national colleagues. You will also manage our Associate, Data & Finance, and work closely together to ensure the careful management of our region’s finances.
Grants Management (60%)
- Develop and implement comprehensive cultivation, proposal, and stewardship plans and calendars for current and prospective foundation, corporate, and government donors giving at levels ranging from $1,000 to $500,000 and above.
- Oversee the entire cycle of our grant process, including researching prospects, developing and managing production of well-written, high-impact and tailored grant proposals, applications, progress reports, draft budgets, and other collateral materials as needed that compellingly convey mission and direction and address the programmatic interests of each funder
- Create high-quality, accurate, concise and thoughtful meeting prep materials for the Executive Director and Chief of Development, Finance, and External Affairs to conduct meetings and school visits; occasionally conduct these meetings.
- Manage invoicing, cash collection, processing, prompt acknowledgement, and fulfillment of sponsorship benefits for of institutional gifts
- Manage invoicing and cash collection process for our portfolio of partner schools, in close coordination with the Talent Hub team
- Analyze historical and market data to inform fundraising goals and strategy for the institutional giving stream
- Manage relationship with national Development, Public Partnerships, and Grants & Contracts teams to ensure coordinated approach and strategic outcomes
Finance Management (20%)
- Manage the Associate, Data & Finance, who owns budget tracking, expense processing, and regular data compilation and reporting in support of accurate, compliant, actionable finance management and data
- Ensure adherence to finance and grants management policies and procedures
- Oversee monthly expense forecasting and the ongoing implementation and improvement of policies and procedures to support the regional team in budget development and management
- Monitor budgets and organizational spending to ensure projections are met
Development Operations (10%)
- Utilize Salesforce database to manage and input data related to institutional giving portfolio and conduct prospect research.
- Track fundraising progress to goal.
- Maintain meticulous records of donor engagement.
- Support the Growth and Stewardship Team in team-wide responsibilities, including support for annual gala and other annual giving campaigns.
- Develop and maintain systems for analysis of key statistics for purposes of tracking, monitoring results, and improving performance.
Regional Team Responsibilities (10%)
- Support, attend and/or participate in regional team activities including but not limited to: corps member selection and matriculation; corps member and alumni professional development, including some evenings and weekends; and functional team meetings and retreats
- At a minimum, 5-7 years of professional experience
- Demonstrated experience in successful grant-writing and management
- Demonstrated experience successfully managing direct reports
- Prior experience working for a funding or grant-making organization, or in the field of education, a plus
