The UN Foundation’s (UNF) Director of Donor Strategy and Stewardship is responsible for increasing and retaining support from donors and partners across the organization for UNF’s core priorities and initiatives. The Director helps develop, execute and evaluate plans, strategies and initiatives that increase individual donor engagement/support and corporate partner support for UNF with an emphasis on unrestricted or lightly restricted revenue.
The Director reports to the VP of Development and is a member of UNF’s Development Department. S/he will also work closely with Public Affairs (PA) staff and other development officers across the Foundation to ensure integration and coordination in securing and retaining support from donors and partners.
Working with other Development and PA team members, the Director is also responsible for developing and implementing communications and stewardship strategies in support of fundraising goals. This includes creating communications platforms around priority funding opportunities for various donor audiences and developing fundraising collateral that align with UNF priorities. The Director may supervise UN Foundation staff, external contractors and/or interns to help develop the fundraising collateral.
S/he will work closely with the Director of Corporate to manage and grow corporate partnerships. In an effort to grow sustainable revenue, s/he will also work closely with the Director of Individuals to ensure a seamless pipeline of donor cultivation (mass/middle/major donors).
- Manage multiple fundraising programs effectively;
- Effective written and verbal communication, staff and program management, budget development and oversight;
- Provide thought leadership and engagement of the donor community at the global level in tandem with the VP of Development to direct fundraising efforts.
Donor Strategy and Stewardship
- Organize and plan donor meetings with the Vice President of Development and other members of UN Foundation senior staff where appropriate;
- Ensure healthy pipeline of donors and partners and drives research to continually refresh;
- Help steward a pool of individual, foundation, and corporate prospects in close collaboration with other UNF programs and UNF’s Integrated Development team with an eye towards renewal;
- Cultivate relationships with program officers and decision-makers within UNF and with strategic partners in an effort to grow revenue and engagement;
- Coordinate corporate and major gift fundraising strategies on behalf of and in collaboration with campaigns and the Integrated Development team.
Strategic Marketing
- In cooperation with other members of the Integrated Development team, write customized communications for ongoing donor stewardship;
- Support the strategic development and management of social movement (grassroots) campaigns that result in the mobilization of mass constituencies for the issues/partners platforms housed at the UN Foundation;
- Coordinate with Affairs team to ensure fundraising is done in tandem with major UNF events, initiatives, social media strategies and brand standards;
- Collaborate with other Development teams across the Foundation, to coordinate messaging, share metrics, and develop integrated strategies.
- Keen attention to detail; solid analytical and problem-solving skills;
- Proven experience navigating and relationship building within complex organizations, including track record of integration across teams;
- Ability to both verbally articulate compelling cases for support and design and write strategic proposals and stewardship materials;
- Ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team in a dynamic work environment;
- Ability to think strategically and develop short- and long-term development plans/strategies;
- Computer proficiency with databases, spreadsheets, and word processing; Salesforce/Raiser’s Edge preferred;
- Ability to meet regular attendance/tardiness policy;
- Ability to work under pressure and handle stress.
