The Corporate Partnership and Philanthropy group (CPP), which includes both Corporate Partnerships and the Maverick Collective, matches risk-tolerant funding, resources and investments from the private sector with PSI’s most cutting-edge innovations and initiatives. With a portfolio of private sector and philanthropic partnerships across the pharmaceutical, fast moving consumer goods, and technology industries, the CPP team is fueling PSI’s ability to fund innovative work and insights that traditional donors will not.  When done right, these investments define best practices in international development and global health, shaping and directing future funding flows. 

The CPP team operates as a global resource within PSI and as such, works with and through our global network of affiliates.  Sitting at the intersection of our field and technical teams and the private sector, CPP bridges disparate interests to find common ground for powerful partnerships, in service to PSI’s mission of global health for all.  Importantly, as traditional donors shift their investments, CPP will be a primary engine for PSI’s ability to continue to deliver market-ready, innovative approaches in global public health.  Collectively, we’re aspiring to bring $75M in private sector capital to bear in disrupting the current systems and market failures that hinder consumers’ ability to access high quality health products and services around the globe by 2021. 

Areas of Responsibility: 

The Deputy Director, Corporate Partnerships, will lead in the identification, cultivation and ongoing engagement of strategic partners in support of PSI’s global programs and capabilities.  The Deputy Director will be both an individual contributor, securing and managing partnerships, as well as a team leader supporting others as they do similarly.  Operating within the PSI global landscape, the Deputy Director will align the needs of our technical and field staff to private sector resources and capital to deliver greater health impact to our target populations around the globe.  The Deputy Director, Corporate Partnerships will report in to the Senior Director, Corporate Partnerships and Philanthropy in Washington, DC.  Travel is expected to be 25%, international and domestic. 

  • The Deputy Director, Corporate Partnerships duties fall into two key areas:
  • Growth of the partnership portfolio (75%)
  • Operational, strategic, and people management of the corporate partnership department (25%)

Growth of the partnership portfolio may include:

  • Cultivating new strategic partnerships to support PSI’s strategy and growth
  • Working closely with our existing partners to strengthen relationships and deepen corporate investments in our work
  • Supporting our in-country field teams in developing, cultivating and stewarding local partnerships
  • Building PSI’s brand as a partner-of-choice among target corporate audiences
  • Understanding how and when to engage our philanthropic partners (Maverick Collective and the PSI Board of Directors) in scaling and supporting corporate partnership efforts, and vice versa

Operational and strategic management of the corporate partnership department may include:

  • Ensuring corporate partnerships are managed efficiently and effectively; simplifying processes and troubleshooting problems proactively
  • Aligning the day-to-day management of corporate partnerships with the realities of the field and technical teams to increase collaboration and boost effectiveness
  • Crafting and delivering annual strategies, plans and budgets to achieve our shared goals
  • Communicating our work and sharing knowledge internally and with our external partners
  • Managing team members, promoting accountability and transparency and helping them to achieve their goals
  • Fostering a positive work environment and learning culture across the CPP team
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s preferred

Our ideal candidate will possess:

  • 10+ years of experience in sales, relationship management, international development or strategic partnerships
  • An agile leader who’s always pushing to improve the way we approach our work (experience in start-up or small businesses helpful); a change manager and advocate
  • A player-coach capable of managing their own portfolio of partnerships on the one hand while supporting others (on the corporate partnership team or in the field) in achieving their goals on the other
  • Experienced practitioner who understands the realities of delivering programs in a large, complex global organization (experience leading programs internationally preferred)
  • Collaborative leader of people able to set a vision and engage teams and individuals in getting there; advocate for team members and their development
  • Commercially-oriented achiever capable of engaging F500 executives and leaders at every level and in every environment, from the board room to a field visit alike (sales or relationships management experience highly desired)
  • Innovative thinker, entrepreneurial approach committed to constant learning and improvement of what we do and how we support PSI’s global network
  • Relationship manager able to engage at both the strategic and tactical levels equally
  • Strong communicator, public speaker and writer
  • Knowledge of international development and/or public health strongly preferred
  • References will be required.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States. N.B. PSI will not consider work visa sponsorship and relocation expenses will not be covered for this position.
  • The successful candidate will be required to pass a background check.
