The Corporate Partnerships and Philanthropy (CPP) team is on the cutting edge of PSI’s mission to reimagine healthcare for girls and women. We harness the power of private resources and partnerships to drive innovation. The philanthropic partnerships division of CPP is known as Maverick Collective.

Maverick Collective is an innovative philanthropic model that is creating a network of women philanthropists and advocates who are investing in the health and rights of girls and women. These philanthropists – known as members of the Collective – invest their intellectual and financial resources to help solve challenges faced by women and girls in developing countries. Maverick Collective is co-chaired by Her Royal Highness the Crown Princess of Norway Mette Marit and Melinda Gates.

Maverick Collective seeks a Community Manager. We are looking for a dynamic individual who is energized about community engagement and possesses a strong entrepreneurial mindset. This person will position the initiative as an innovative model of philanthropy, create tailored learning and engagement opportunities for our members, and help develop them as thought leaders and informed advocates.

Working with a passionate team, the chosen individual will be responsible for connecting, inspiring and engaging meaningfully with our members, including managing all events and experiences; creating dynamic community-wide education and advocacy initiatives; and fostering relationships both within the Collective and the wider global health and girls and women’s community.

Areas of Responsibility: 

You will support Maverick Collective and its members to create opportunities for learning, collaboration, and knowledge sharing. You will also work with members as part of a tailored communications curriculum, helping to shape their messaging, talking points, editorial pieces and internal/external storytelling.

Responsibilities will include: 

Communications and Advocacy:

  • Support delivery of communications training opportunities by internal experts and source added-value external opportunities for Maverick Collective members to deepen their skills
  • Assess members’ communications capabilities and develop tailored plans for members to help build social media profiles, to place members on select panels, to pitch members to press, and to help members reach their advocacy goals
  • Create new tools and resources to help our members direct their considerable talents, treasure and time toward the highest-impact activities
  • Work to ensure Maverick Collective members are integrated into PSI advocacy initiatives that leverage their talent, skills and knowledge to influence policy change
  • Brief members and staff prior to press and/or external event opportunitie

Network Collaboration:

  • Foster links between and across members of the Collective, PSI, and the broader community of practice, creating innovative opportunities for sharing knowledge, learning, and experience
  • Develop comprehensive learning and engagement curriculum for members, linking to PSI and external experts to drive awareness and education on key issues in the global development and health space
  • Lead planning and execution of key events (including annual member retreat) which bring together Maverick Collective members for shared learning and collaboration

Knowledge Sharing and Management:

  • Identify project learning and create plans to disseminate knowledge and lessons learned across PSI and beyond.
  • Identify tools and opportunities for members to network and leverage each other’s networks and project learning.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree. Master’s degree preferred but not required.
Skills/Experience: 
  • 5+ years’ experience in communications, advocacy, and designing dynamic learning and engagement experiences, preferably within membership-based organizations.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to connect with a range of individuals of different backgrounds and expertise.
  • Strong interest in public health, women and girls and poverty alleviation.
  • Experience developing and executing communications strategies for philanthropic interests/movements as well as for individual advocates.
  • Successful experience in media relations.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills and a portfolio of quality written products for a variety of formats (e.g., blogs, articles, op-eds, etc).
  • Must be willing to travel.

  • Creative communicator capable of capturing complex ideas in written and spoken word, visuals, infographics and other forms.
  • Ability to deliver high-quality interactive presentations.
  • Knowledge of best practice communications and networking tools and techniques.
  • Excellent negotiation, influencing, relationship management and collaboration skills.
  • Experienced storyteller capable of weaving qualitative and quantitative information together into compelling narrative.
