Communication Specialist I, Creative Development Support

The Communication Specialist I is a member of an upbeat and creative HIV Communication team within FHI 360’s Social Marketing and Communication department in Washington, DC. The Specialist will provide support to several innovative national, US-based HIV communication campaigns contributing to the overall success of creative development, social media, community events, and other campaign implementation tasks. The incumbent will work as an integral member of a creative team of media; public health; marketing communications; technical assistance; design; and finance staff to plan and implement a broad range of health communication and social change projects and activities, with particular contributions expected in the area of community outreach and strategic communication to reach gay and bisexual men, LGBTQ, people living with HIV, and communities of color. This position reports to the HIV Communication Team Deputy Director.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Works with graphic designer and others on team to develop a variety of promotional and informational campaign materials and products such as posters, social media memes, banner ads, toolkits, videos.
  • Researches, writes, and edits a broad range of communications to promote campaign activities in print materials, websites, and other communication channels
  • Serves as task manager for assigned projects, ensuring quality and smooth production from start to finish of project.
  • Develops timelines, production plans, and other tools to oversee assigned tasks and ensure they are completed on time and in a manner that meets client expectations
  • Develops creative briefs to guide creative development process
  • Oversees video production vendors, supporting recruitment and screening of volunteers, and on-set logistics
  • Coordinates with task leads to propose and develop innovative products to support campaign implementation.
  • Assists campaign management team in meeting all contract deliverables, including planning and budget assistance for production of creative products.
  • Assists with monitoring of vendors and consultants, including coordination of support staff procurement and successful completion of finance documents.
  • Contributes to new business development efforts, as required and appropriate.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree or its international equivalent in Journalism, English, Communications, or related field.
Skills/Experience: 
  • 2-5 years of relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of principles, theories and methods of communications, public relations, and
  • journalism.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to write effectively for the appropriate audience; must be able to read, write, and speak fluent English.
  • Ability to prioritize, and competently manage a variety of activities with multiple deadlines meet deadlines.
  • Expertise with Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Requirements

  • Interest and experience in public health and health communication.
  • Experience in creative development or production.
  • Spanish language fluency is a plus.
