The Associate Director is responsible for overseeing Save the Children Action Network’s (SCAN) volunteer leader and training program. The Associate Director will work in partnership with the state managers, Mobilization Directors and Senior Director to ensure that volunteer leaders complete SCAN's on-boarding process and have the appropriate training to be key partners in the organization’s advocacy work. In addition, this position will represent and lead SCAN’s efforts in planning and executing state- and national-level advocacy training events, including the annual Advocacy Summit in Washington, D.C. The volunteer leader and training program is focused on empowering SCAN's most active volunteers to help lead SCAN’s two priority policy campaigns – expanding early childhood education in the U.S. and ending preventable deaths of mothers and children overseas – in their communities.
- Serve as at the national point person for SCAN’s volunteer leader program, including managing the onboarding process for new leaders, tracking leader information and documentation in CRM and answering ad-hoc inquiries and requests from leaders. (20%)
- Manage ongoing preparation and communication with volunteer leaders, including facilitating monthly webinars, creating, updating and sharing new program materials, contributing to the volunteer newsletter, and maintaining the volunteer leader portal. (15%)
- Work with SCAN mobilization team staff to identify volunteer training needs and develop relevant webinars, in-person trainings, online modules and more. (10%)
- Oversee the planning and execution of 5-8 state-level advocacy training events and 2 national-level advocacy training events for volunteer leaders, per year. (25%)
- Lead cross-functional and cross-issue team to coordinate and implement Save the Children and SCAN’s annual Advocacy Summit in Washington, D.C. (25%)
- Support the planning, goal setting and budgeting process for the Volunteer Leader and Training Program, including tracking expenses for all state- and national-level events. (5%)
- A minimum of five to seven years of experience in issues-based advocacy.
- Experience with content development, especially training content and oversight of consultants.
- Experience working with volunteers or boards.
- Experience with event management, timeline develop and oversights.

- Ability to multi-task and prioritize a number of ongoing projects
- Ability to travel frequently to priority states and additional travel to meet campaign-specific needs when required
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree
- Strong understanding of legislative and electoral process.
- Extensive volunteer management experience
- Experience working on state legislative or local campaigns.
- Experience in campus and youth outreach and engagement campaigns.
