The Associate Director, Content Strategy will serve as a leader in FHI 360's Communications Department, reporting to the Director of Communications. The team member in this role will be a seasoned communications generalist, supporting corporate communications initiatives by leading a team of diverse experts responsible for content creation and delivery through multiple communications channels.

Areas of Responsibility: 

The Associate Director, Content Strategy will work in concert with the Director and other members of FHI 360’s Communications Department, responsible for:

  • Planning, developing and delivering clear, relevant content, including corporate publications that support organizational goals and priorities.
  • Development of corporate messaging for website, publications and major events.
  •  Management of FHI 360's editorial team; overseeing all plans, day-to-day progression and problem-solving.
  • Coordination across all content and output channels to ensure maximum strategic reach and content distribution
  • Governance of content creation, editing, publishing, and maintenance, including experience balancing efficiency and quality control.
  • Promotion of content through external outlets.
  • Media relations, including training of targeted staff and oversight of media monitoring
  • Oversight of the visual look and feel of all print and web properties and ensuring all visual branding guidelines are adhered to.
  • Collaborating with other team leads and teams including Digital Engagement, Regional and Sector Communications and Internal Communications on diverse initiatives and activities.
  • Brand alignment to ensure that FHI 360's brand is reflected accurately in content and corporate assets
  • Strategic communications planning around initiatives led by various sectors within the organization, in tandem with other teams within FHI 360’s Communications Department to ensure maximum communications value.
  • Management of direct reports as well as various communications functions.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in Communications or related field
Skills/Experience: 
  • Typically requires 8+ years (12-15 preferred) of marketing and public relations experience with international development experience strongly preferred
  • At least 10 years of experience managing staff and leading teams preferred
  • Excellent writing and editing skills
  • Strong leadership personality with ability to assess and resolve situations quickly and maintain a fast day-to-day pace
  • Comprehensive knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures with marketing and/or advertising strategies and communications.
  • Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people
  • Experience in editorial development and coordination
  • Experience in media relations (please provide examples of work and success)
  • Strong project management experience required (please reference examples of work)
  • Experience, comfort and familiarity working with organizational leadership
  • Experience translating visual identity across communications properties
  • Comfort level and experience with working across all aspects of communications as well as liaising with multiple organizational leaders/departments in a matrix environment
  • Strong problem-solver; ability to navigate various viewpoints to develop consensus
  • Comfort in developing and presenting concepts, reports and updates to leadership
  • Passion for working in mission-oriented environment
  • Writing test required.
