The (SNL) Advisor for Advocacy and Knowledge Management leads the Advocacy and Knowledge Management functions of the program and serves as a technical resource for staff. The Advocacy and Knowledge Management Advisor works with the home office leadership, with SNL´s four country offices, and with working groups, alliances, and steering committees across the Save the Children federation and other key organizations that work globally to advance the newborn agenda. The SNL Advisor for Advocacy and Knowledge Management provides leadership in SNL dissemination and in the development, production, and implementation of key communications systems, tools and products, and also provides leadership and oversees the Newborn Health Knowledge Platform the Healthy Newborn Network (HNN).

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Oversee day-to-day activities and provide strategic direction for the Healthy Newborn Network (HNN) and its related social media, ensuring partner participation and buy-in. Provide leadership in the development and execution of HNN as a knowledge platform and hub for reaching and engaging new and existing partners and audiences. Lead special initiatives where HNN plays a major role with external partners. (30%)
  • Provide leadership for SNL´s internal engagement to influence and engage other units within Save the Children, such as Health & Nutrition Global Theme, Health and Nutrition Advocacy and Policy Steering Group (APSG), and Public Policy and Advocacy team, as well as externally with organizations such as WHO, UNICEF, the World Bank; other advocacy groups, working groups, and coalitions; and private sector organizations with an interest in newborn health. (20%)
  • Lead and oversee the implementation of innovative approaches to disseminate information and learning to external stakeholders and expand the reach and impact of SNL’s knowledge sharing activities. Identify and implement approaches for sharing knowledge among key stakeholders and partners (e.g., through communities or practice, study tours, workshops, etc.). Manage the implementation of the global and country documentation plans. (15%)
  • Provide leadership in the development, production, and implementation of key communications systems, tools and products such as SNL web pages, e-newsletters, briefs, reports, videos etc. to support SNL’s dissemination to increase support of and access to newborn health issues and information. (15%)
  • Provide leadership and supervision to the SNL Knowledge Management and Advocacy functions, including managing the work planning and budgeting process, ensuring deadlines are met, identifying consultants as appropriate, and serving as a leader, role model, resource, and mentor for unit members and the global SNL program more broadly. (10%)
  • Oversee planning and execution of key internal and global newborn health events, liaising with other departments and country offices within Save the Children as needed. Act as a Save the Children/SNL representative at external events as needed. (10%)
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree
Skills/Experience: 
  • You have a minimum 7-10 years' experience in in the development of communication and advocacy strategies with proven leadership designing and implementing results-oriented strategic communications plans for developing country-level programs and global projects.
  • Professional experience working in or supporting projects that are implemented in developing countries .
  • Strong management and strategic planning skills, able to prioritize, and able to manage competing demands.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in dissemination, print, video and online media, preferably related to maternal and child health.
  • Experience with management of online knowledge platforms
  • Excellent English writing and communication skills on maternal, newborn, and child health policy and research issues.
  • Computer literacy in word processing, publication, graphics, and spreadsheet software packages.
  • Able to travel 15 percent of the time, mostly internationally.
