FHI 360’s Civil Society and Peacebuilding Department (CSPB) currently seeks a Technical Officer Preventing Violent Conflict and Extremism & Youth Engagement to support program design, and proposal development, and to provide support and guidance to FHI 360’s programs and activities aimed at preventing violent conflict and extremism, and/or engaging and empowering vulnerable youth. The Technical Officer will also contribute to external and internal research and learning initiatives, and thought leadership in these practice areas. Additionally, s/he will be responsible for marketing and outreach efforts and relationship building with strategic partners. The relative balance of these responsibilities will shift over time, depending on Department priorities.
TECHNICAL SUPPORT-RELATED FUNCTIONS:
- Enhance FHI 360’s technical capacity in preventing violent conflict and extremism, and positive youth engagement.
- Provide appropriate technical guidance as needed to FHI 360’s programs and activities aimed at preventing violent conflict and extremism, and/or engaging and empowering vulnerable youth.
- Train and advise FHI 360 DC and field-based staff in preventing and countering violent extremism(P/CVE) approaches, including integrating them into the design, implementation, and monitoring and evaluation of programs in other sectors.
- Train and advise FHI 360 DC and field-based staff on positive youth engagement approaches.
- Contribute to internal and project-funded research and technical product development in the areas of P/CVE and positive youth engagement.
BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT AND OUTREACH-RELATED FUNCTIONS:
- Track potential development opportunities in the P/CVE and youth engagement practice areas for CSPB and support the development and maintenance of strategic relationships with development partners and donors.
- Serve as technical contributor or technical lead for select CSPB proposals for P/CVE, youth engagement, and other related programs.
- Provide proposal inputs to other FHI 360 business units, as needed, for P/CVE and youth engagement programming approaches, across sectors.
- Minimum of eight years’ relevant experience working on P/CVE, positive youth engagement, and/or peacebuilding, including USAID programming. Ideally, the experience should include at least two of the following: research and analysis, proposal development/program design, field program implementation, and training facilitation.
- Experience working in conflict or violent extremism-affected countries preferable.
- Fluency in French and/or Arabic preferred.
- Experience with USAID contracts and cooperative agreements, and knowledge of USAID programming and policy objectives.
- Must have strong supervisory and organizational skills.
- Excellent writing, editorial, and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal, negotiating, decision making, and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to develop innovative proposals in a proactive manner.
- Must be able to intellectually conceive, design, and articulate new approaches in the conflict-sensitive development and peacebuilding arenas.
